induction kit / air filter choice - zx_volcane - 09-06-2012

so having removed the airbox to make way for fmic piping, could now do with an after market filter fo the black zx DT

The silver one has a green filter, but they are $$$

Will a cheap-o cone filter do the same job?

looking at ebay

hah just lol'd at the negative feedback "The seller lies - it does not give an additional 10-12 BHP" O RLY?

I've been looking at something like this, but I've heard that a standard Honda S2000 filter is pretty good ninja

you need something that can flow a lot of air...............smaller/worse designed it is the more restrictive it will be!

Re: induction kit / air filter choice - silverzx - 09-06-2012

I keep getting a metal sieve and a jubilee clamp into my head. Sad

^^ that won't stop all the little fine bits that get stuck down the side of your pistons and wearing your bores, thats why I just haven't bothered with anything lol

Should probably really sort something out soonish on this engine TBH since I have just rebuilt it!

Re: induction kit / air filter choice - Dum-Dum - 09-06-2012

Relocate the battery and make a big enclosure there.

hah can't keep re locating things to make room for things, thats how i got into this mess, i'll be sending a spider in there next to catch the fly and end up with a car full of cow and wondering if I'll die Smile

Like the idea of the oem s2000 filter, should be able to flow, enough bet those vtecs suck in a lot at 10k

de-filtered sounds alright, but will no doubt ruin the internals, think i'll borrow the green filter from the silver one for now and prob get an s2000 one on order

Yeah they suck in a lot of air at 10k but its still at 0 psi, I am pretty fecking sure that the XUD will suck in more air at 5k and 30psi...............

Re: induction kit / air filter choice - Dave - 10-06-2012

The boosted high revver xuds consume an unreal amount of air, the flow into the turbo intake is so high (170+mph for 2") that any small restriction in normal circumstances is massivly amplified... Just like it would be on a 150mph car and you open the window....

Re: induction kit / air filter choice - zx_volcane - 11-06-2012

Noted, but I'm wondering if the likes of K&N / Green are just big names, and are the universals the same tech?

Yeah I did the maths on liters per minute on a stage 2 HDi at 23psi at 4k and was pretty shocked so I can imagine what it is on an XUD running 30psi at 5k

Re: induction kit / air filter choice - lolsteve - 11-06-2012

There was a video I think I posted up a while ago where they tested the bhp affects of standard filter , cheapo cone and expensive cone. The cones had like 1bhp difference between then iirc

Re: induction kit / air filter choice - Harky - 14-06-2012

I got a genuine green cotton one for a £10, shop beside me had a load of them and was selling them all off at a tener, previous price had been £79.99! Wish now I hada bought a few of them!

Still to decide upon a route and fit mine though so can't comment yet as to how good it is!
