Any help me out? - Matt - 09-06-2012

I've got two broken wheel studs that are in the hub I started trying to drill them out but I don't think my drill is man enough or there is something incredibly strong about these bolts.

Anyone got the tools to remove? And/or will a tyre fitters have tools too?

Re: Any help me out? - samass - 09-06-2012

what size/type of bit did you try and use?

Any help me out? - Matt - 09-06-2012

Prob like a 8mm. It was from b&q too!!

Any help me out? - Oil-burner - 09-06-2012

They are a bitch to get out mate, I'd just swap the hub since there's two snapped!

Re: Any help me out? - samass - 09-06-2012

better off starting small, then getting bigger. btw, think that halfrauds do bolt/stud remover things. basically a reverse threaded tapered thingy. (helpful, no?) youd have to drill a hole, then get that in there and try wrench it out.

or, as si says, swap the hub.

Any help me out? - Oil-burner - 09-06-2012

If your gonna drill them you want to put a small pilot hole in first then gradually get bigger and bigger bits!

Any help me out? - Matt - 09-06-2012

Burger. Right I'm back off to b&q then too get a couple of drill bits!

Any help me out? - Oil-burner - 09-06-2012

Or that, lol

Any help me out? - Matt - 09-06-2012

Oh and thought about swapping hubs but it's one in each side :/

Re: Any help me out? - samass - 09-06-2012

make sure you get it central! and go slow, with a bit of 3n1 as you get to the bigger bits, powering through on max rpm does nothing but ruin your drill bits. also, dont get the b&q ones, theyre shite. get the bosch ones.

Any help me out? - Oil-burner - 09-06-2012

Seriously pal, by the time you've messed around buying and breaking drill bits you may as well have swapped the hub!

When drilling steel btw push on it really hard and go really slow.
If you just whack the drill on full beans it'll just burn the bits out!

Any help me out? - Matt - 09-06-2012

Haha fair enough. I'm gunna go see what they have got.

I haven't even looked to see if it's central haha just carried on drilling from where grant started last time
Lol

Re: Any help me out? - samass - 09-06-2012

Grant's been at them?? Confusedhocked:

gunna need new hubs. i can change them in an hour each side, done it far too many times now!

Any help me out? - Oil-burner - 09-06-2012

Haha I'm gonna leave this to you Sam!
Off to get me some crackers!

Re: Any help me out? - samass - 09-06-2012

mmmm crackers. that reminds me, im hungry!

Re: Any help me out? - Curt - 09-06-2012

I told you I have easy outs you fool!!

They're always a bitch though to be honest...

Re: Any help me out? - ginge191 - 09-06-2012

Again, use drill pieces, start small and work upwards. I found drilling backwards often helped shift the stud...

Re: Any help me out? - puglove - 09-06-2012

2x 18mm hubs yours for £10 come get em Tongue

Re: Any help me out? - Dum-Dum - 09-06-2012

Make sure you have a tap for once youve finished drilling. M12x1.25 IIRC

Re: Any help me out? - 4WayDiablo - 09-06-2012

Whatever you do don't shear the hardened steel or whatever its made of stud extractor in there as you can't drill that out haha

Hahahah well..... Tbh up to FCS my front wheels will be held on by 3 bolts lol. And then if puglove is at FCS I'll buy his hubs, and then if have time/can be fooked, for them there, and if not I'll try and do it myself Smile

Any help me out? - Matt - 09-06-2012

Remove wheel
Take driveshaft nut off
Undo ball joint pinch bolt
Undo shocker pinch bolt
Undo track rod end
Undo abs sensor
remove hub

Easy

Damn that looks easy!
