Cooling fans very stiff to turn. - cheapo - 14-07-2018

On replacing my front bumper yesterday, I noticed that my 2L HDI with aircon's fans are either kind of stiff to turn by hand or, (the other one) completely solid! I've never had the car overheating in 3 years, but have to drive 500 miles this weekend. So I'll have to cross me fingers while I do it!
So how do these fans normally feel when you move them  by hand? Obviously I'm going to have to replace at least one of them.
Dammit! Bumper off again then! Oh well, at least the nuts won't be rusty  Angry  next time.

They're meant to be free as free to turn by hand. It's very common for them to seize up. You'll struggle to overheat a hdi unless sat in traffic for an age at which point turn the car off. I'd buy two aftermarket slimline fans and use the wiring from the old ones. Makes life so much easier and you're not replacing them with used old parts. It's what I've always done and I've not had an issue yet. Plus they're cheap on eBay and fast delivery.
