After service, advised that a bulb was flashing and it cost £200 to replace, with the bulb holder costing about double that.
Though "yeah, yeah" to myself, maybe they've flagged me up as some sort of idiot or something

Gotta ask, to people who know, is this sort of thing normal on modern cars? Am I going to get stupidly expensive bulbs on any modern car?
Generally, in terms of maintenance, i'm not happy with the engineering of the Honda. Tried to replace the wing mirror, had to take the door card off! Its a 2 min job in a 306!

Says its a D2R bulb, ebay shows them anywhere from 10-30 depending on what brand

Its a xenon bulb. D2R. Same as the Saab. I did it myself in no time at all and I think I paid maybe £40 in the end. Check amazon.

£165 for a service with free recovery/breakdown cover for a year?
Find me somewhere else that does that for less.....

I service my own cars and carry a mobile and have mates with tow ropes and a reliable car.
and that has nothing to do with the fact that you went to a dealer for a bulb for an 11 year old car.

Went to the dealer for a service. Not a bulb. The news about the bulb came up as part of the after service.

You chose a car with HID Xenon lamps... Yeah, they're not cheap, but that's probably the original lamp to the car in fairness.
But yeah, from anywhere else (i.e. not the dealership...) I'd expect it to be about £50 for a D2R.

This is why newer cars are becoming more and more disposable! (Except for the initial outlay cost)
Everything is stupidly expensive! Especially those ridiculous "Look at me I'm an Audi driver" Indicators and fancy LED headlights....
