got a link to the one you bought? I fitted a sportex on the back of my 1.8 and it sounded nothing like that. It was really droney and annoyed the life out of me. I think it came off a HDI previously so different internals?

Most standard systems are pretty droney with just an aftermarket back box. Remove that mid box and it should sound much better.
