Probate vehicle valuations - Paul_13 - 01-06-2017

Well after a long 2 year battle with cancer my father passed away the other week and unfortunately he didn't leave a will so everything has to go through probate.

The problem is he's got 33 vehicles we need to get shot of.

I'm just seeing if anyone has been through this ball ache before and has any tips.

From what the government website says "anything over £500 needs a valuation from a garage".
Now what I deem is scrap might not be in someone else's eyes.

Most of the cars are rust buckets and have not seen the road in 5-10 years and more.

However a few of the bikes are decent and actually run.

So far we've logged milage and condition and got a price off webuyanycar.com. Or does there have to be a "probate" valuation in place.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

parkers or glass guide would be the place to start

The issue is because of the age of the vehicles a lot of places won't give valuations. I'll have a look at glass guide

ahh thats a sod, glass is a trade thing so you may need to fibd a local car dealer to help.

what cars are there?

Is a ball ache but i would get the valuations of the ones you think are worth something by a garage/dealer that is interested in the cars themselves. hence giving a fair valuation. Sorry to hear about your old man never nice, lost my mum a while back so sympathise. hope you get it sorted

Sorry to hear that and all the best, On the car side I'd speak to a solicitor and see what they would see as a value in the way of Law, I guess it also depends if you want a high or low value on them depending on the estate value.

If they're old or classic any guide like parkers of glass is going to be a waste of time, values of classics fluctuate abit making it hard to pin down a true price, unless you buy/sell them it can be tough to gauge market value.

find out what your solicitor would consider as a 'value' and then speak to the right people.
