Part no longer available? - Mighty306 - 10-04-2017 Hey guys. I recently replaced the beam mounts on one of my cars without dropping the beam fully from the car. When I was knocking out the bolts that hold the beam, crossmember & front mount together I think I damaged the threads on one of them. When re-tightening didn't get anywhere near torque spec n it was just spinning. Cursed a lot n then went looking for an M12 x 1.25 x 90mm threaded bolt online. No luck & even called some specialist suppliers of fixings. Thought, OK, Peugeot it is. They told me they don't supply them any more. They can supply the deep M12 x 1.25 nuts though .....at £10 a pop . It's this one .... Finally bought some 10.9 M12 x 1.5 bolts & deep locking nuts (fine rather than extra fine thread & not zinc plated as no one seemed to be able to supply them). Have 2 questions .... 1) Was my local dealer lying to me? 2) Should I have any concern the bolts aren't original spec? (Apparently the finer the thread the less likely it is to self-loosen & I can see why you wouldn't want those to self-loosen!!!). I used some thread lock on them to be safe Thanks guys. RE: Part no longer available? - welshpug - 10-04-2017 1- probably. 2- wouldn't concern me if they are still high tensile and nylocs. Yes, used 10.9 bolts (vs 8.8 originals) & nyloc nuts BUT even though used standard depth (type P nuts) these are not as deep as the originals. Hence why added threadlock on top of self-locking. Did check that the combo I used were more than capable of taking the required torque spec. RE: Part no longer available? - Eeyore - 10-04-2017 if its all high tensile i wouldnt worry. Best bet would be to get down a scrappers or ask a member on here if they can supply the bolt! Wasn't at the time but it's one of the things that made me realise you sometimes need the support of a group like this!! Not only that, it seems very sociable . RE: Part no longer available? - Eeyore - 10-04-2017 Matt_rallye works in a scrappers so im sure can get lots of bits for you. Stef also rebuilds beams so probably has bits too! RE: Part no longer available? - Piggy - 10-04-2017 Stef can get these RE: Part no longer available? - Mighty306 - 11-04-2017 Thanks guys, that's great to know for the future. With his shiny new arrival on UK shores though I don't think Stef has his mind on 306 rear beams at the moment! RE: Part no longer available? - Frosty - 11-04-2017 If you are struggling i should have some of them bolts somewhere. Let me know if you still need them. RE: Part no longer available? - Mighty306 - 11-04-2017 Cheers Frosty. Will bear that in mind. Have to do mounts n try to rebuild beam on another 306 soon-ish. Since I'll be removing those bolts off the car I'll hopefully be less likely to trash the threads! RE: Part no longer available? - Stef205 - 11-04-2017 im always doing beams, currently waiting on my order of bolts from my supplier. I can supply new bolts for the whole beam if needed. |
