Ph1 electric window switch removal - PaulOH - 01-04-2017

Hi all,
Have a Phase-1 Meridian with a dead drivers-side window. I think it might be as simple as dirt in the mechanism as the passenger window continues to work from both its switches.

Today I tried to remove the switch unit to give it a clean and inspect the wiring and was unable to do more than remove the top trim plate, undo some screws from the door pocket and nearly cause the door speaker to fall out!

Tried prising out the switch unit with a screwdriver but that just stretched/scraped the plastic and got me nowhere.

Can anyone help me with getting the switch unit out? Car is due its test and this is a fail point so I want to avoid spending cash if it´s as simple as a loose wire.

I hate electric windows too - pointless and break-prone in my experience - am irritated that I have to fix this and am actively considering retro-converting it to gym-windows which don´t break or prevent you taking it to the MOT.

more likely to be a broken wire in the door shut mate, the switches just pop out through, easier to push from the bottom Smile

it wont fail, they don't check the windows.

most likely to be broken wiring in the door shut.

Thanks lads,
You´re probably right - I´ll have to take it to be spannered as I can´t even get the door trim off!
The window is a fail point here for the Spanish car test in Catalunya.
Hate those windows!

Hiya,
Just an update - turned out to be neither the switch or the wiring - the motor had failed. €110 for an entire motor and guide mechanism and a friendly mechanic fitted it, €185 all-in once VAT was paid.
Pricier to fix than I had hoped but not as bad as I would have expected for replacing the whole thing.
It'll probably outlast the car!

Harsh lol, pick them up for £10 over here, not bad to fit, oh well at least you got it sorted Smile
