Lacquer peel - Magenta Sunset - 25-03-2017 yes, my ride has the common lacquer peel, mostly on the roof. now, can I get away with a sand & relacquer, or is it going to be a paint & lacquer respray? I await your guidance. RE: Lacquer peel - gti6man - 30-05-2017 I've lacquer peel to and all the research I've done points to: Put a border with masking tape around peeled area or on adjacent panels if painting whole panel Sand back all the clear and potentially back to primer, but not to metal. (220grit) Reprimer 3 coats, wait 10 mins between move border so you can see the edge and sand edge so it merges a little with solid paint put a guide coat of another colour on primer sand with 440 grit whole primered area sand area of unaffected panel with 1500 grit (this will be for the clear coat on the panel) Put on base coat 3 coats on primer 10 mins between coats put a coat on the edge of the border where it meets original paint Wait an hour or so to dry Then 3 thick clear coats Wait a 2 weeks and polish panel Ive never painted before so this is just what i've picked up hopefully that's everything... Hoping to paint some areas of my roof and tailgate soon, this is a temporary solution for my bonnet... ![]() RE: Lacquer peel - Magenta Sunset - 30-05-2017 gee! after much deliberation, and a welcome boost to funds, i'm putting mine in for a respray. should be good for another 10 years+ |
