Driving Comfort - Magenta Sunset - 04-02-2017

Hi all,
i'm thinking of a couple of mods i'd like to achieve for better comfort, but my welding skills are none since the 1980's.
is there anyone here who;d be willing to extend a steering column by about 3" at the UJ end, and also, make up a gear stick with a cranked top to reposition the gear knob back by the same amount?
beer money available for the job.

extending a steering colum is serious work for someone to undertake would have to make a bracket to move the top part forward as well you cant just add to the bottom. A lot more work than you would think. Also im not sure how insurance companies would take to someone changing a steering collum in that way considering one of the mot failure includes ANY part of the steering sysstem that has had excess heat applied

Hi mate,

I've basically done all of this in my old 309. Only easy way to bring the steering wheel closer is to use a boss'd steering wheel with a spacer, my old car being a good wood with the wooden wheel that wasn't a problem. I'd love to keep a standard wheel but it's not going to happen. I'm just going to get a nice subtle leather MOMO.

In a couple of cars now I've moved the seats further back and lower which made a huge improvement. Target is to have you knees no higher than your waist. Gear levers I've extended and ensured throw isn't changed, albeit not further back but being higher up really improves things.

yeh as said by allye why not just get an aftermarket wheel with some dish and a boss? cutting and welding the gear shifter into a good position should be easy enough but remember the throw will get longer so probably will need a quick shift kit to compensate.

did the dished on my old 205. but found the stalks were only just reached by fingertips.
I know some cars do have a telescoping column, perhaps one of them?

Xsara has that, with the stalks being further away it's just something i lived with.
