citroen bx what to look out for?? - Chris_1990 - 31-07-2016 Seen a nice citroen bx on Facebook for sale looks mint so going to look at it tomorrow it's a 1992 straight diesel. Any one got any knowledge on these? I'm OK looking at the engine standard stuff but never looked or drove a bx before so what do I need to look out for?? Also what these sell for now days? Will have full mot it's not massive miles on it something like 100,000 and really does look in good condition spec level is tzd I belive, I'll try and add some pictures. RE: citroen bx what to look out for?? - Seb_Ryan - 31-07-2016 Make sure all the suspension works properly.. Got those accumulators that leak Sent from my LG-H850 using Tapatalk RE: citroen bx what to look out for?? - procta - 31-07-2016 Before you buy anything like this, have a look on what they are like for spare parts too, remember these went out of production well over 20 years ago, and I think were the most binned off citroen due to the price of the suspensions. I remember reading about them in a few mags years ago that they cost nearly £700 quid to fix the suspensions. But who's to say that is true anyway. RE: citroen bx what to look out for?? - Chris_1990 - 31-07-2016 Parts on any old/classic are always gonna be hard to get hold if but the one think that does put me off is the hydrolic suspension cos I know if something brakes on that then it's gonna be big money. I think a lot of those horror stories are from dealer pricing, if you DIY everything, it probably won't be that bad if you can successfully diagnose. RE: citroen bx what to look out for?? - Paul Baldwin - 31-07-2016 Check the hydraulic pipes that run all the way under the car. I went to buy one of these off a mate years back, tidy looking car. It pissed it's hydraulics all over the driveway just before I got it off his driveway. These particular pipes meant it was a diesel tank remove job to replace so that's where it stayed as I couldn't be arsed with all that at the time. If you can bend pipes, flare ends, change accumulators etc and have space to do it then it doesn't have to be too expensice I shouldn't think? Good looking old skool motor now imo, with 12 months ticket on it I'd be tempted :-) RE: citroen bx what to look out for?? - procta - 31-07-2016 (31-07-2016, 11:33 AM)Chris_1990 Wrote: Parts on any old/classic are always gonna be hard to get hold if but the one think that does put me off is the hydrolic suspension cos I know if something brakes on that then it's gonna be big money. Not always the case mind, The mini/ mgb the ford escort mk1 and mk2, you can get nearly everything for those. It goes by how popular and sort after the car is, If there isn't any demand for the car, then no one will bother supplying parts. Also another thing chris is the price of the parts too, when you do manage to get hold of what you need. The proper mini, is a great example for part prices. Prices have jumped up stupidly, for daft things. bare that in mind, also I do strongly recommend if you can get hold of one, is a proper workshop manual, not the Haynes manual. The workshop manuals are proper mustard and are more detailed than the Haynes manual. If you are handy with spanners, have a bit of budget, and are a massive fan of these cars. Know of any good forums and owners clubs, you will be able to tackle everything. citroen bx what to look out for?? - bashbarnard - 31-07-2016 Check the front subframes they rust through, hydrolics are fairly easy fix on these my boss has one and somehow manages to get new bits for it. RE: citroen bx what to look out for?? - tigerstyle - 31-07-2016 Never going to be as popular as the GTi (was it called a GTi?) or the factory turbo diesel versions, actually surprised they aren't all turbos. There was indeed a GTi model that had a 1.9 8v (XU9J2) engine shared with the 405 SRi/GRi, but the daddy was always the BX 16v that had the 1.9 16v (XU9J4) engine the same as a 405 Mi16... although they're probably getting rare now given the number of them that were engine raped by 205 owners in years gone by. RE: citroen bx what to look out for?? - Chris_90 - 01-08-2016 I now own it gotta be the slowest thing I've ever driven but still strangely attracted to it ![]() ![]() RE: citroen bx what to look out for?? - procta - 01-08-2016 enjoy it chris, RE: citroen bx what to look out for?? - Toms306 - 01-08-2016 That looks really cool, and should be proper comfy unless the suspensions broken...but that's a lot of car for a NAD to move!! ![]() RE: citroen bx what to look out for?? - mr_fish - 02-08-2016 Just realised the steels are solid. Buggies are different sizes now, you also carry shit loads more round with you nowadays compares to back then. Not to mention the safety aspect, God forbid the worst to happen but I'd rather a bump in an Audi estate than a little BX. Maybe I'm just boring but I don't think I could cart two kiddies round in an early 90s sardine can! RE: citroen bx what to look out for?? - Chris_90 - 21-10-2016 This bx is now for sale with a turbo diesel engine and hdi gearbox, it's sold as spares or repairs as need some work on to get it right. Having to sell as I'm unable to work as I need to look after my wife. Hopefully some one might be able to copy the Facebook add across for me. RE: citroen bx what to look out for??
