Steering rack piston cover - doogle-d turbo - 10-07-2016

I'm just stripping a steering rack and the orange plastic cover that protects the piston is ruined. Has anyone replaced this? Can't find what the part is to replace it. Or has anyone improvised?

yeah i had one on a previous car that was messed up to the point it was hanging under the car. couldnt find anything to replace ended up without one. was fine for a while but then removed pas in the end so couldnt say how long it lasted. suspect you could probably rig a steering rack bellow/boot over it that covers up the inner rack joint/tie rod end joint.

Yeah. Well I've just cleaned it and put it back on so it won't hang off. Better than nothing. It's taken 20 years to get that bad so I'm not too concerned as the piston was still surprisingly clean.
