Saab 93 1.9tdi...thoughts - Piggy - 30-05-2016

Mate has a 1.6 rusted old focus...

Wants derv and bit more modern.

There is a Saab 93 1.9tdi local. 120k miles. 8mth mot.
Had within last two months all brakes, tyres, belts and a service.
Guy bust his leg and now needs an auto.

Asking £1400.

Is it a vauxhall engine right?

Duno...my info is second hand..

How does one tell?

RE: Saab 93 1.9tdi...thoughts - 1616six - 30-05-2016

Get the reg, or a pic of the engine bay Smile

RE: Saab 93 1.9tdi...thoughts - Piggy - 30-05-2016

Got a reg:

RE: Saab 93 1.9tdi...thoughts - 1616six - 30-05-2016

150bhp

Best engine but most problematic. It's the one I had in my vectra.. A map alone takes it to over 200bhp.

Things to look for are check the inlet manifold to see if the swirl bar is still attached.. New manifold time if not, or just blank them.

Usual EGR issues, blank it.

Boost solenoid occasionally clogs up on them, one bolt to remove & clean.

No DPF to worry about if it's a manual.

Not a bad engine the Z19DTH.

I know a chap near Ipswich who maps them for £90 odd, custom map he writes himself and he'll map the EGR out etc too. Proper mapping geek perfectionist.

RE: Saab 93 1.9tdi...thoughts - Piggy - 30-05-2016

He wont want a map.

Just that bits are available.good to know it has no dpf.

What you rekon to the price?

Thats for tips Smile

...but...the mapper...does it use same mpps cable??

RE: Saab 93 1.9tdi...thoughts - swampy - 30-05-2016

Yeah we have the 1.9 ttid and it does what we want

Nice comfy cruiser , good mpg and parts arnt bad priced

I've just got me an Astra 1.9 as a stop gap car till my new company car is all ok

RE: Saab 93 1.9tdi...thoughts - Eeyore - 30-05-2016

93 is good and as for parts ive found it pretty easy if not cheaper. lots of parts arent listed online but the saab places can still get hold of them

RE: Saab 93 1.9tdi...thoughts - 1616six - 30-05-2016

I can't remember what cable if I'm honest.

What's the mileage?

You can pic up the Vectra variant for £700+ now if you're not fussed on mileage. I've seen saabs for less than a grand though.

Only other thing is they're strict on cambelt/pump intervals, water pumps seize if you leave them which then snaps the belt.

They both snap springs, a lot.

RE: Saab 93 1.9tdi...thoughts - Toms306 - 30-05-2016

Same engine I had in my Vectra as well...

Decent power output, 6 speed box, nice and torquey! Pretty poor fuel economy for a diesel motorway cruiser though, like 45mpg avg doing the same routes as the 180bhp Golf would avg 60mpg and a 135bhp HDi 55mpg.

Thermostat was broken on the one I bought, cost £70 to replace, genuine only at the time. EGR got stuck open so had to be blanked. Turbo was on it's way out when I sold it at 110k (bought on 99k, had already had clutch and DMF replaced at 77k). Didn't like cold starting without glow plugs which is odd for a CR diesel. Spring snapped on mine between delivery and my first drive in it, wrecked a tyre, ruined any trust for my ownership tbh. But that said, I did own it for a year which is longer than most 306s I've had! lol

With mapping, you can use MPPS but it's EDC16 afaik, bigger map and more likely to get bricked than the old EDC15 stuff.

RE: Saab 93 1.9tdi...thoughts - 1616six - 30-05-2016

Oh yeah, the turbo will sound like a police siren.. They come out the factory sounding like it. Don't worry.

Yeah unfortunately I still see the new owner occasionally, turned out it did need replacing lol.

Thanks lads

RE: Saab 93 1.9tdi...thoughts - Piggy - 08-06-2016

Thoughts??

RE: Saab 93 1.9tdi...thoughts - Eeyore - 08-06-2016

Nice and cheap. Again check 120 or 150. It doesn't have the top of the range stereo and it doesn't have the worst either. Lots of car for the money.

RE: Saab 93 1.9tdi...thoughts - Piggy - 08-06-2016

Again...not sure how to check... JJ knew from reg...but duno how to do that

RE: Saab 93 1.9tdi...thoughts - 1616six - 08-06-2016

It's a 150, same checks as I advised before

RE: Saab 93 1.9tdi...thoughts - Piggy - 08-06-2016

Thanks man Smile

Seems a lot of car to me

RE: Saab 93 1.9tdi...thoughts - welshpug - 08-06-2016

Interesting...£500 eh...must have been high miles/tatty?

RE: Saab 93 1.9tdi...thoughts - Toms306 - 08-06-2016

It says the power output in the spec list on there lol.

I'd be slightly worried about the clutch being changed then sold/px'd 500 miles later though? Why would anyone do that unless there were bigger issues!?

Not only the '6, I have quite a bit of experience in this area. Wink

RE: Saab 93 1.9tdi...thoughts - welshpug - 09-06-2016

my landlord has picked an 07 identical to that advert, seems 07 is the first year of the DPF, as its blocked.

but 118k miles, £500.

beware the rear light clusters, 140 a corner for used items on eBay!!

RE: Saab 93 1.9tdi...thoughts - Toms306 - 09-06-2016

I thought all the estates got a DPF but the hatches didn't?

If the DPF is blocked, that's probably why it was cheap... Confused

RE: Saab 93 1.9tdi...thoughts - welshpug - 09-06-2016

easy fix though, ten minutes to unbolt the unit :p

map the bugger to 190 bhp, job done Big Grin

Rofl

oh yeah, was caused by a faulty egr valve and map sensor, which the previous owner got fixed.

RE: Saab 93 1.9tdi...thoughts - Toms306 - 09-06-2016

Easy fix for you lol, not necessarily for Piggys mate! lol

RE: Saab 93 1.9tdi...thoughts - welshpug - 09-06-2016

if he knows a piggy, easy fix.
