Berlingo GTi6/Rallye - eddy_gti6 - 02-03-2016

Well as some of you know and have seen over the Christmas I turned my Berlingo 1.9d into a 2.0l 16v what came out of my Rallye. I bought the van in November with only 1 intention and that was to fit the engine out of my Rallye.
The conversion was pretty straight forward engine dropped straight in, exhaust needed extending, wishbones and shafts off the Rallye went onto the van as their slightly wider giving a little bit camber, full wiring from the Rallye went into the van and had to rewire front and back lights and pretty much the full dash.
Got the van up and running New Year's Day and for pretty much the whole of January I just drove it to see if everything was ok and working and just enjoyed it. Come February was time for new wheels and tyres and coilovers. Next is the back axle and better seats. Here's a few pics but will upload more tomorrow.

If you don't like what I have done that's not my problem and to be honest don't really care, what's the point? The point is it's quick, practical, different and my decision.
Enjoy B)

RE: Berlingo GTi6/Rallye - adam b - 02-03-2016

Wot? No holes?

I've always wanted to v6 a mong bus version. One day....one day....

RE: Berlingo GTi6/Rallye - procta - 02-03-2016

topper sleeper there! I know conversions likes of these are tricky at the best of times, how quick is it compared to the 6 shell?

RE: Berlingo GTi6/Rallye - Mattcheese31 - 03-03-2016

Nice one fella, sweet sleeper you've got there, bet you're having fun with it Big Grin

RE: Berlingo GTi6/Rallye - Piggy - 03-03-2016

And why not hey! Thats ace!

RE: Berlingo GTi6/Rallye - Matt - 03-03-2016

That's awesome!

RE: Berlingo GTi6/Rallye - eddy_gti6 - 03-03-2016

Thanks lads, no holes in this one Adam... Yet haha
Compared to a 6 it's probably just the same really, weighed 1060kg when it was checked at MOT station and that was with a load of tools and rubbish in the back. It is good fun, no one expects it at all and these handle really well.

RE: Berlingo GTi6/Rallye - Paul_13 - 03-03-2016

Love it

RE: Berlingo GTi6/Rallye - Frosty - 03-03-2016

I love these sort of things, bet its a right laugh to rag around as no one will expect it to be quick. Top work Smile

RE: Berlingo GTi6/Rallye - eddy_gti6 - 03-03-2016

I love it, do not regret pulling my Rallye to bits to build this one bit. You just don't realise how handy a van is till you have one, definitely gets used as it should. I would love to see what people think when it comes past them haha

I tell you, they will have this look on their face Huh    or     Hmm  depending on what car you leave standing. Its fun doing that in sleepers. I had a lad with eyes as wide as saucers when he caught up with me at the lights. ( that was been nice to the car too)

RE: Berlingo GTi6/Rallye - eddy_gti6 - 03-03-2016

Go pro mounted to the windscreen just below the sun strip, been a few time I have been out and about over the Pennines and B roads and wish I had the go pro so it's now on and ready to use when ever I need it B)

RE: Berlingo GTi6/Rallye - mr_fish - 03-03-2016

Such a win bus. Nice to see something different. Wiring looked a bit of a ballache

What g/box did you use in the end?

RE: Berlingo GTi6/Rallye - eddy_gti6 - 03-03-2016

Engine and 6 speed box straight out the Rallye, wiring was the hardest part really, conversion took me about a week but wasn't really too bad, spent about 2-3 days on wiring everything up and getting things working as they should. Still got maxi fuse box off the chassis leg to move inside the glove box from engine bay. Exhaust probably spent a day fitting that, getting it to sit where I wanted it, welding new brackets on, extending the middle section and cutting the rear bumper. Was a couple little issues I didn't think about but nothing major

RE: Berlingo GTi6/Rallye - powerandtorque - 03-03-2016

Good work. Only thing I think I'd change would be to put it on C5 steelies or similar so that it looks completely unassuming to the untrained eye.

I might need to pick your brains on a few details at some point as I'm helping a friend of mine do something very similar with a Partner van, although I think I've got the bulk of it figured out. Suffice to say, I was none too pleased having agreed to help fit the engine and adapt the loom to suit when I discovered that he'd bought a later model Partner with multiplex wiring as the base for the swap, particularly when we don't have the original 306 as a donor for everything required!

RE: Berlingo GTi6/Rallye - eddy_gti6 - 03-03-2016

Wiring I can't really help with as I rewired the whole van, all original Berlingo wiring came out and all the 306 wiring went in.

Berlingo GTi6/Rallye - Paodl - 10-03-2016

Awesome car! I've been daydreaming about doing the same thing. Does the suspension fit right over from the 306?

RE: Berlingo GTi6/Rallye - eddy_gti6 - 10-03-2016

Yes made everything pretty much apart from wiring just bolts straight on

RE: Berlingo GTi6/Rallye - Matt - 14-03-2016

When are we going to see some go pro vids Big Grin

RE: Berlingo GTi6/Rallye - eddy_gti6 - 20-03-2016

Sorry can't load any go pro videos yet, computer is broke but I do have a few videos now.
Bit of an update here. sold the speedlines too as the scrubbed loads so dropped back down to 15" cyclones. Thinking about changing them for a set of saxo VTS wheels now.
Also managed to get hold of a ramp and some heat to lower the axle, came apart quite easy with abit heat even tho my mate nearly set fire to the van a few times haha. Also listened to my mate when he told me the arch gap was 100mm as he measured them so we lowered the van 100mm haha big mistake. Now it's too low Sad

RE: Berlingo GTi6/Rallye - Niall - 20-03-2016

This is awesome. Ive wanted to do this for ages and am actually considering dropping my SC6 engine into one at the moment and getting rid of the gti. Hmmm...

RE: Berlingo GTi6/Rallye - eddy_gti6 - 20-03-2016

Thanks mate, I have an eaton M45 here I was planning on fitting but just dont think it's worth it. Keep thinking of selling this and did put it up for sale but getting stupid swap offers ect... So think I'm just going to keep it.

RE: Berlingo GTi6/Rallye - eddy_gti6 - 21-03-2016

Lowered the front a little today so it sits level now and moved my air filter

RE: Berlingo GTi6/Rallye - allye - 21-03-2016

So much room in that bay!

Coilovers need some love.

Love it by the way, mines like a older 205 version!

RE: Berlingo GTi6/Rallye - eddy_gti6 - 21-03-2016

Coilovers are fine, just look bad off all the salt want bad weather over the winter, they are only TAs, no need for expensive coilovers as its only my daily

RE: Berlingo GTi6/Rallye - Matt - 21-03-2016

Looking awesome now mate! The lows are nice, what's the ride like with it that low haha

RE: Berlingo GTi6/Rallye - eddy_gti6 - 21-03-2016

Back is pretty bouncy but that's because the standard shocks are fully compressed, will hopefully be swapping them to a set of gaz adjustable shocks when they arrive. I didn't want it this low but my mate said to go this low and didn't get time to check the hight before we had to pack up so it will get lifted up at some point. Only about 10-20mm

RE: Berlingo GTi6/Rallye - eddy_gti6 - 23-03-2016

Lifted the back end up 20mm today, sits better and it's not bouncy any more, just waiting on a set of gaz adjustable rear shocks turning up now. Possibly picking up a set of White saxo VTS wheels up at the weekend to replace the cyclones
