Which torque wrench..? - ginge191 - 07-05-2012 I don't often use a torque wrench but i'm going to be taking the injectors out next week and looking at buying one. The injectors are torqued to 90nm, but what's the difference between wrenches? Ideally, wanting to spend as little as possible.. seen this one: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Silverline-1- ... 2c62139008 and this one: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hyperion-1-2- ... 3a716bfdf3 which are a nice price then a draper piece, which is a bit more?: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Draper-1-2-Dr ... 20c521aff3 any more suggestions? Which torque wrench..? - Matt - 07-05-2012 I will be interested in this too. Want one for when I rebuild the too end of my engine ![]() Re: Which torque wrench..? - 4WayDiablo - 07-05-2012 First one doesn't really go low enough The second doesn't go high enough The third goes high enough maybe not quite low enough but probably offered the best bet As for build quality I wouldn't know as I've never used 2/3 of them but draper I've not had a problem with Re: Which torque wrench..? - ginge191 - 07-05-2012 to be fair, all i'd be torque'ing up is wheel bolts and injectors, i dont really torque anything else, and both of those are 90/99nm Re: Which torque wrench..? - silverzx - 07-05-2012 Would also be interested in this, need to add it to my collection of "what if" tools. :S Re: Which torque wrench..? - Poodle - 07-05-2012 Silverline one has a guarantee, only thing between them tbh. All budget makes, so i'm guessing performance will be similar, although i've never heard of hyperion so i'd avoid them personally. Re: Which torque wrench..? - 4WayDiablo - 07-05-2012 One of the stages of head studs are 20nm? Might be useful Re: Which torque wrench..? - ginge191 - 07-05-2012 4WayDiablo Wrote:One of the stages of head studs are 20nm? Might be useful but from what i've found there is no extended torque wrench which goes to 20nm, and max at to at least, 120nm Re: Which torque wrench..? - Dum-Dum - 07-05-2012 Really you need 2 torque wrenches, one for less than 30nm and one for the big jobs. Mine came from Lidl dead cheap and appears to be accurate. Re: Which torque wrench..? - ginge191 - 07-05-2012 Dum-Dum Wrote:Really you need 2 torque wrenches, one for less than 30nm and one for the big jobs. this is what i was thinking. For now, i need the mid range torque settings, 90/99nm settings, then if i ever come to doing head bolts, get another, smaller wrench. Chris, any advise on the top wrenches? cheapies work just as well as expensive? Re: Which torque wrench..? - Poodle - 07-05-2012 As above, big ones are inaccurate on the little stuff and vice versa, so may as well get two if you're going to be using them often. And you usually get what you pay for, but it's not often you'll be torquing something that'll make a big difference if you're 10% out. Re: Which torque wrench..? - Dum-Dum - 07-05-2012 IIRC when PPC did a test on them about a year ago they were all much of a muchness, just the more expensive ones had a little better range. Even the cheapies were within a reasonable degree of accuracy. Re: Which torque wrench..? - Toms306 - 07-05-2012 Do you have a halfords trade card? Think the mid size one is roughly 40quid with trade. Maybe a bit more than you want to spend but the do have a lifetime garantee. I have the biggest one (50 on trade) and it seems well built, easy to use and accurate. Mines for hub nuts and caliper bolts mainly. But thinking of getting a smaller one if I attempt the clutch change on the golf. Re: Which torque wrench..? - ginge191 - 07-05-2012 think im going to buy this one http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SEALEY-AK624- ... 2ebc1b7557 already calibrated for decent accuracy. Which torque wrench..? - Matt - 07-05-2012 Is that a range of 27.1-203? If so I'll get myself one of them ![]() Re: Which torque wrench..? - ginge191 - 07-05-2012 yep, not quite low enough for head bolts, but smaller wrenches would be used anywho. Which torque wrench..? - Matt - 07-05-2012 Sweet may pick myself up one on payday, and get a smaller one for the head bolts ![]() |
