Absolute longest gearbox! - allye - 02-12-2015 I would like to know the longest gearbox or final drive useable on a HDI. My 205 Will have a mildly tuned HDI engine, with the extra power and less weight of a 205 I think it will be able to push itself along with a rather tall box. Now, I have a 205 diesel box, 306 hdi box and a 206 hdi Eco (2.0) box already to make a longer than hdi box fit the 205 (205 diff, gear selector on hdi box with 206 final drive) So my question! Is there a longer geared choice out there!? Anything from the 406/Xsara/307 110/130hdi's or even a 6 speed that will bolt up? Hydraulic clutch and cable gears considered. Thanks, Ali RE: Absolute longest gearbox! - zx_volcane - 02-12-2015 Not 100% sure, there was a thread recently on gear ratios you may want to check out > http://306oc.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?tid=32608 Are you splitting the entire gearbox and rebuilding with eco final drive? Would be very interesting, please do take a few photos and get a guide up if you do RE: Absolute longest gearbox! - allye - 02-12-2015 Thanks for the link, yer will be splitting the boxes to swap final drivers, diffs etc. There is actually a guide online on swapping a BE3 final drive so useful for 306's. I'm going to run 14' wheels (base model shell) with some chunky side wall tyres to achieve the same overall diameter as 15's, hopefully even taller. 70mpg is the target. RE: Absolute longest gearbox! - allye - 02-12-2015 That link isnt massively useful! Just a lot of people speculating. Can anyone shed some factual light on this? RE: Absolute longest gearbox! - bashbarnard - 02-12-2015 Thats the point of the link. its saying that all the info you want is on service box. not many people really play with the gearboxs RE: Absolute longest gearbox! - welshpug - 03-12-2015 ypu wont want a box from the larger vehicles as they have bigger wheels and therefore lower final drives, something like a 205 fd with different gearing may be the way to go. I don't think going really long will work however, you need to make sure its still in its efficiency range, there's no point making 5th so long that its cruising along under its boost area and labouring all the time. Sorry, there's been a lot of that attitude about recently, people posting to say they know but won't share and the like. Sad really, brings the place down. RE: Absolute longest gearbox! - welshpug - 04-12-2015 lol, another thinly veiled dig, well done. Its not my information and it is widely available. Just a lot of people speculating. tbf welshpug told everyone exactly where they could find the info, can't blame him for not wanting to trawl through it himself and work it out and post it up. Took me 10 seconds to log into servicebox and bring it all up, not that I then worked any of it out either :/ RE: Absolute longest gearbox! - cully - 04-12-2015 what is the matter with people these days! don't people know how to use research tools like google , servicebox or forum searches no one is going to do the legwork for you on your own research people will only point you in the right direction, from info with what they have at hand or remember, they won't hand you everything on a plate please stop bitching at everyone for not doing your legwork! RE: Absolute longest gearbox! - Dum-Dum - 04-12-2015 I did alot of searching a year or 2 ago, the absolute longest is the 206 DW10 HDi Eco box and it has a longer final drive than all the other boxes. Don't be fooled by the fact that the second line in the eco box has the same number of teeth as any other BE3 and think it's just the (easy to change) crown wheel in the diff thats different as the ECO crown wheel doesn't mesh with a normal BE3 2nd line cog so you either need to use the whole box and it's IIRC hydraulic clutch or rebuild the whole box with the ECO parts. RE: Absolute longest gearbox! - welshpug - 04-12-2015 yep, always change the CWP as a matched set, even if the pair of nuimbers are the same. RE: Absolute longest gearbox! - Poodle - 04-12-2015 I take a different point of view, but it wasn't a comment aimed at anyone in particular. Just another opinion, don't take it too seriously. RE: Absolute longest gearbox! - allye - 05-12-2015 Thanks dum dum, as i have a unicorn eco box my plan is to just use the final drive in the HDI box. Orrrr, as I've made a hydraulic 205 pedal box before I could do that, prefer cable though. |
