Rev gauge - Frosty - 25-10-2015
Im looking to put a rev gauge in a 205. Going to get an after market 1 like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/281835532818?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
Whats the best way to go about wiring them up? Would i be able to do any thing with the original flywheel sensor to make it work from that?

Yeah its just a 1.8 diesel but im putting a 1.9 dt lump in it

You could swap the dash loom (stdt/gti) which serves the clocks and put some STDT clocks in and you'll have a working rev counter.
I've done this myself and I know it works. Straight swap.
You just need a stdt/gti clock surround.
Most of which I conveniently have
Gti clocks could be used, just need to hook up all the sensors. Which is what I'm planning to do.
Rev counter will read to 8 instead of 6 on the gti clocks

Yeah, looked into it ageeeeeees ago and was more ball ache then it was worth.
So I got STDT Clocks etc and then ended up selling up.

I doubt that a standard GTi tacho will work, at least not without modification.
The GTi tacho needs to see the high voltage pulse off an ignition coil to work, and you won't have that from the induction pulse from the TD pickup. Even removing/bypassing the filter circuit like you do when you convert the tacho to work with later engine management or aftermarket ECU's I don't believe will work, evidenced by the fact that XUD's won't work with HDi clocks and vice-versa.
The circuit board on the TD tacho is quite different to the GTi tacho. I've got both at home somewhere.

Swap loom like for like
Reinstall dash and put stdt clocks in
The Rev counter sensor was already in the engine and plugged into the loom. Its present just unused

I'm saying using the STDT loom/clocks is best option.
Anything else is a ball ache.

I tried the 'W' terminal thing. didn't get anywhere. though I might of had a goose'd gauge.

I does say it comes with instructions to get a reading from the alternator i think.
I was hoping someone else had tried fitting an aftermarket rev gauge before but guess no one has
