GTI6 cylinder head - cully - 16-10-2015

I have a cylinder head that needs a skim!
i understand the head new is 137mm +-0.05 between the cam ladders
the maximum safe skim is to 136.8mm +-0.05 which = 0.2 of materiel can be removed

the head i have is already skimmed to 136.6mm
is this head toast or is there any options of saving it

seems a shame to scrap a head

RE: GTI6 cylinder head - Eeyore - 16-10-2015

my head was fully rebuilt and then a local skimmer ruined it by taking too much off :/

Could you use a marginally thicker head gasket to account for the extra skimming on the head?

RE: GTI6 cylinder head - cully - 16-10-2015

std J4RS Metal head gasket from pug is 1.2mm 0209 Z2

J4R lists but are Fibre
1.2mm 0209 N6
1.4mm 0209 T9

the 1.4 will only bring a max safe skim back to std hight

i havent had it skimmed yet and its passed safe skim

Not sure a local garage in your country have the made to order gasket or not ?

In my country I can order the made to order metal head gasket for many kind of engine, Like a 1JZ-GTE, 2JZ-GTE that is very popular for modification in my country.

Just use a thicker head gasket, no need to scrap the head.
Cometic makes gaskets made to order in whichever thickness you need.

nice hint of a sale thread on your third post Tongue
but i think i have enough engines here already of the RS type Wink

Skim it some more, then stack two gaskets on top. If it's works out perfect then harrah! if not then it's the start of a low boost project

Ferriday engineering are good for this kind of stuff. Have a word and see what they think
