Lucas to Bosch help - simonson1982 - 24-08-2015 My car is going under the knife today to get a Bosch replacement pump. I understand the pump timing needs to be altered once fitted. Is there a specialist tool needed to do this or is there just a simple way of doing it? Cheers RE: Lucas to Bosch help - ginge191 - 24-08-2015 (24-08-2015, 08:01 AM)simonson1982 Wrote: My car is going under the knife today to get a Bosch replacement pump. Cheers If you're referring to advaning/retarding the pump timing, it's a matter of 'rocking' it on it's pulley mounting. By rocking i don't mean similar to backwards and forwards constantly; more just moving it slowly. I'm inclined to suggest you do it when the engines off, retard/advance as necessary, start it up, how's it sounding/looking etc. RE: Lucas to Bosch help - andyyy - 24-08-2015 Make sure you get a Bosch Pump bracket as-well or move the studs in the Lucas one or the timing will be way off. Only tool you'll need to adjust the Pump timing is a 13mm spanner - as said above loosen it off and push the pump forward or back RE: Lucas to Bosch help - ginge191 - 24-08-2015 NOTE: The 13mm bolt UNDER the pump ; is the absolute LAST bolt to tighten up. Once it's done, it's done, you'll never want to touch it again RE: Lucas to Bosch help - bashbarnard - 24-08-2015 Just remove aux belt. Loosen bottom bolt on alternator remove top bolt and lean it forward. Easy to get to then. RE: Lucas to Bosch help - simonson1982 - 24-08-2015 Ok so we've encountered first problem. How do we wire the bosch pump so its not effected by the Lucas immobiliser? The Lucas has two sets of plugs and the bosch only seems to have one?cheers RE: Lucas to Bosch help - mr_fish - 24-08-2015 Just find the 12v ignition live using a multimeter. Normally its the Red wire I've found. RE: Lucas to Bosch help - simonson1982 - 24-08-2015 What happens to the rest of the wires that where in the Lucas are they needed? You need 1 feed. that is all ![]() RE: Lucas to Bosch help - blinkyeatu - 24-08-2015 if your pump vanes have seized and you decided to clean them up heres a pretty good pic heavy guide http://www.brick-yard.co.uk/forum/ve-injector-pump-rebuild-in-colour_topic17456.html doesnt look to bad i was just about to start removing my pump to do this but then thought i would give it one more try the vwalaa it start to cough RE: Lucas to Bosch help - simonson1982 - 24-08-2015 Should the pump be quite stiff to turn over by hand? Yes - and will 'jolt/jump' every quarter turn when turning by hand/spanner RE: Lucas to Bosch help - simonson1982 - 24-08-2015 Ah good it seems like mine has freed up then. All I need now is a mechanic who isn't a spas to fit it for me! Mine didn't have a clue!!
