Standard Brakes Question - Kezzieboy - 10-07-2015

Evening chaps.

My front brakes need doing for the MOT, they're Lucas 266mm calipers. I don't need anything track spec, it's just a supermarket/motorway run car, what's a good balance of cost and performance? Low dust if there's nothing else to choose between them. Need discs as well.

Cheers!

RE: Standard Brakes Question - Connor - 10-07-2015

Pagid from ecp, cost me about 50 quid last time

RE: Standard Brakes Question - Poodle - 11-07-2015

I always liked the oem mintex stuff, seem to remember that some people thought they were dusty though, can't say i ever noticed, but then i never was a detailing kinda guy.

RE: Standard Brakes Question - Kezzieboy - 11-07-2015

Best to get them from eBay, Poodle? I've got some of those they're just the bloody wrong ones from line 4 years ago, lol.

RE: Standard Brakes Question - Toms306 - 11-07-2015

I always use Pagid myself. Smile

RE: Standard Brakes Question - Jonny81191 - 11-07-2015

Pagid tbh, just bed them in properly and they're very good.

RE: Standard Brakes Question - Ruan - 11-07-2015

Yep another vote for Pagid.

Only other thing I'd touch now is oem bosch pads, had a set for mine in 266 size and preferred them to M1144s and Ds2500s, no warmup time, cracking feel from the word go and didn't go off suddenly!!

The more racy pads ended up scaring you if you'd been on the motorway or aren't driving using the brakes hard, you'd hit them cold and you'd wonder if the servo assistance had disappeared...

RE: Standard Brakes Question - Poodle - 13-07-2015

Ebay is where i bought mine, but my local motor factors do them now. Pagid are good, i just like to avoid using euros if at all possible.

RE: Standard Brakes Question - welshpug - 13-07-2015

o.e.m for me, find the part number and look on ebay, theyll outlast and perform anything from a motorfactor.

All come from the same people anyway Smile

Eicher are made by these mob too

RE: Standard Brakes Question - welshpug - 13-07-2015

not really, my rear pads are Bendix and fronts Galfer, in Citroen boxes :p

Eicher is a cheap own brand tat stuff from ECP.

RE: Standard Brakes Question - Toms306 - 13-07-2015

They are made by the same company - but in the same way as the Audi R8 and Skoda CitiGo are all made by VAG... It doesn't mean they're all the same! Wink

Eicher are made by TMD as well, but they are the value cheap shite, I've warped a couple of Eicher discs giving them the same treatment as Pagids.

RE: Standard Brakes Question - welshpug - 13-07-2015

warping discs is very unlikely, 99% of the time its pad deposits or corrosion

RE: Standard Brakes Question - Toms306 - 13-07-2015

Hmm, not in my experience, I was anal enough to check them with a DTI gauge as I couldn't believe they've fail so quick. lol

I agree judder isn't always a warped disc but I'd say its more than 1%.

RE: Standard Brakes Question - Poodle - 13-07-2015

Seen a lot of problems with the eicher stuff, including a couple of warped discs tbf.

RE: Standard Brakes Question - Kezzieboy - 13-07-2015

Anyone want to tell me which of the 17 different bloody pads are the right ones?

These ones are definitely wrong, as I bought them last time I had the brakes done and they've sat on a shelf since. They're Lucas 266mm HDi calipers.

RE: Standard Brakes Question - Toms306 - 13-07-2015

You need the ones with square ears...

Like this?

This is the cheapest option.
