Front caliper refurb - stuck slider pins - 306rhys - 06-07-2015

I've started refurbishing a set of front brake calipers the Lucas ones that fit 283mm discs.

One slider pin on each caliper appear to be stuck and won't come out. Any advice on removing them?

Also this is my first caliper refurb so anymore info would be much appreciated.

Thanks

I've ordered the new pins - these ones

It's the old ones in the caliper I can't seem to get out, tried turning them as well.

Will take some pictures tomorrow I'm at work atm

Lots of heat and work them out with vice grips slowly

Wtf. Never ever had to use heat and I've ripped apart ones that hadn't seen grease in years. Mole grips, turn and pull is all that's required.

That's a good way to snap them off, many will require a tickle from the oxy acet torch before they will come free, just depends how bad they are

As above, don't just go in hammer and tongs else you'll end up with a scrap carrier. Patience is the way.

Try tapping them ina bit with a hammer first to break them loose. Then get a GOOD set of vice grips and make sure you've a good drip the turn them while pulling out and they will start to work thier way out chum Smile

yeah plusgas or a little heat, try turning them either way slowly first.

My set I have now were all four seized. All came up a treat in the end

haven't had a chance to have another go at removing the pins, but they do rotate either way so they're not completely seized which is good!

Accidentally spilt some petrol into the hole where the slider pins go into, if cleaned it all out and dried it out also, won't be putting the slider pins in till next week.
Just need reassurance that this won't affect the calipers at all
