Pipercross or K&N - RetroPug - 28-06-2015

Which sounds better? K&N gauze cone filter or a Pipercross foam one?

This is for a GTi6 engine. I've tried K&N many times but never run a PiperX one.

Foam everytime or if you have some cash a itg filter imo plus when it's upside down it reads gti Wink

Had pipercross, have kn 57i now. Go piper for induction noise.

Ram Air, better and cheaper too

I had a Ram Air one...noise was awesome. Big Grin

My k&n sounds way better than the viper I had on the rallye

My K&N Apollo sounds a bit vtec-y when hooning but doesnt seem much louder than stock when part throttle driving

To clarify: I've got a K&N open cone that sounds pretty good and I've found a PiperX one in a cupboard that I was wondering whether or not to bother trying it out. If foam does sound noticeably different or better I might give it go.

Thanks.

Wire gauze, no air filter! BWAAAAAARP!!

But seriously, I've found that all cones make a pretty good grunting noise. I'm currently using a K&N cone, but I used a cheapo metal one on my 106 gti and made a good noise aswell.

k&n apparently most restrictive

Foam seems to sound 'throatier' than paper in my experience, presumably from higher flow...but that probably means worse filtration lol.

I suppose I should just stop being lazy and swap it over and compare the sounds. Big Grin
