Cutting compound - Niall - 24-05-2015

Well the paint work on the 6 is in an absolute state. Swirls everywhere so it needs a good polish. I was going to go over it with some cutting compound. I have some Meguiars 105 here and tbh, its not all that good so I'm looking for something a little better? I know a lot of people use 3M stuff but not sure exactly what to buy?

Thanks all!

I JUST had this very conversation with my best mate Harry who has been a painter for 10years now, he currently paints all the exotic stuff.

I'm a newb and asked him the same Q...
he said:

3m Green top.

Jumped on amazon for the best price ThumbsUp

he also recommended a medium silverline foam pad which si about £6, again from amazon Smile

what colour is the medium pad?

i use the red silverline pad from toolstation for my rotary polisher and  autoglym super resin polish

21642 Red: very soft sponge for final finishing and polishing
33265 Blue: soft open sponge for compounding/polishing cellulose and acrylics
11874 White: soft polishing & buffing sponge. Use for compounding 2-pack paint systems.

all at £3.94 each

blue cully, although I paid £4.21. My Harry said based on the fact my car has never been machine polished and does have some areas that need a little more work, like the roof and rear quarters, he said that pad.
I may stump up for the red too though at that price.

I didnt know we get club discount Sad

I paid £27.95 for the 3M green top delivered.

I normally keep a few on the shelf as if you hit a trim edge it will shred the soft sponge into confetti,
the wife gets real annoyed with as she sees the red bits for days in our drive stones

I use menzerna compounds with hexlogic pads.

farcla g6 as recommended from my friend that work at mclaren i use it on the 205 and the 106 easy working and not overly aggressive. I use a medium yellow g3 velcro machine pad too.

3M is great, and really I should promote it being we sell it and I'm the collision specialist at ECP... But I personally prefer Fareclar products if I'm honest

105 can work well depending on the pad and tool you are using.
Cant go wrong with menzerna combined with a good pad. For sake of extra couple of quid why bother with the silver line sponges that just break up as you look at them. i can make my pads last a while and iv given them abuse on vans. If your looking at the hexlogic pads may as well buy them from the company that make them Flexipads
