Painting Engines - Eeyore - 14-05-2015

Hi All,

Not sure what to do. I will be pulling the engine out to fit GTI6 exhaust manifold. Ill be giving the bay a good clean and possibly a bit of spraying in places. What should I do with the engine though? Ive got silver hammerite and a whole load of GUNK engine degreasant.

Should I take an extra day to degrease, pressure wash, dry and paint the engine?

I imagine that it would look great for all of two seconds and once oil and grime reappears it will be a pain to repaint and keep clean. Should I just degrease it and leave it at that?

Thanks,
Sam

I wouldn't use hammerite on a cast iron block as it chips off too easily, unless they have changed it since i last used it. its been a while admittedly.
Paint it black using an engine enamel then the grime wont show up Wink

You need to paint it red.

cos red ones go faster.

RE: Painting Engines - toseland - 14-05-2015

red for the SAXO power, but yeah, deffo enamel, not hammerite

Hammerite is fine on blocks and brakes, cleans up surprisingly well and I've never had a problem with it coming off even having had brakes hot enough to boil the fluid and get sparks coming out the pads.

Yeah my block is painted with Hammerite and its still looks like the day it was painted.....just covered in oil :p

Black but i wish i had of done it a different colour. It makes finding a oil leak much more difficult!

RE: Painting Engines - Toms306 - 14-05-2015

Can't do blue in a red car!

Black would look good imo, shouldn't show up the dirt/oil but look better than rust.

The last one I done in the mini I was able to buy some proper bl green paint from.a specialist. Sort of reminded me of coach paint.

RE: Painting Engines - Dum-Dum - 14-05-2015

Hammerite gold? Or mix up a bright green?

RE: Painting Engines - mr_fish - 14-05-2015

Lime green FTW

We all know paint makes the engines stronger and keeps the legs in. Tongue

Shame it's not a cherry red then if surggest yellow, but with Diablo if stick with silver it's mind of a safe bet

RE: Painting Engines - Seb_Ryan - 14-05-2015

Just make sure you lacquer it and chip bits off so it matches diablo..
