2.2 Hdi - Silverainbow - 13-05-2015

Hi guys, been offered a 2.2 Hdi engine complete with everything on it very cheap, so what I want to know is are there any components on it other than the fuel pump that I can utilise to get more power out of my 2.0ltr Hdi in my 306, Also does the Be box fit on the 2.2 and would I be able to extract more power out of the 2.2 engine if I shoehorned it into my car ?

sorry for all the questions

Cheers in advance

Tris

There's a guy called Andy with a 2.2 blue Dimma, it would be worth searching for his project thread Smile

Didnt andy sell it? To jimmer or something?

RE: 2.2 Hdi - silverzx - 13-05-2015

Dunno but I've seen it up Cheddar Gorge a few times in the last two months I swear.

RE: 2.2 Hdi - Midnightclub - 13-05-2015

Yeah guy called Jimmer owns it now, thread is on here but he's mainly on .net I believe. Think he lives in bridgy Trent so it's possible.

That explains that then.

Been tempted to wonder over and say hello but been too busy going sideways. Tongue

Alright for some! Wish I had rubber to burn lol

RE: 2.2 Hdi - Dum-Dum - 13-05-2015

The BE seriesbox fits as does the standard fly wheel. Personally I'd run it off the DW10 loom and get the ECU remapped to suit. Get rid of the swirl flaps, vac controlled turbo and all the rest of that nonsense and also swap to a DW10 thermostat housing/water rail.

RE: 2.2 Hdi - procta - 13-05-2015

Jimmer gave the car a full blown over haul, mind it needed it did it not!

Would the DW10 Turbo fit on the 2.2 manifold?, guess the best thing to do is get it all, get it home and have a play with it, It's in an 806 at the mo, has an aluminium inlet manifold, don't know if they still have the stupid swirl flaps?
Just thought that if I could get it in the 306 with little or no fuss then it might be an easy route to more power, I'm used to fitting Mi & Gti6 lumps in 205's also done a couple of big power XU10 turbo conversions in 205's too so don't mind a bit of fabricating and messing around

It certainly did, did a good job of it too by all accounts. Username is jimmer021 if you've not found him yet.

If you're not fazed by fabrication work you could get a serious motor built. Is it the older dw12? Have a look in the dw10 vs dv6 vs dw12 thread in this section for more info.

RE: 2.2 Hdi - Ruan - 14-05-2015

Most of this has been covered in the dw10 v dv6 v dw12 thread - but for the sake of it:

2.0 16v (RHW/DW10ATED4) and 2.2 16v (4HX/DW12TED4) are near enough identical from the cylinder head up - i.e. they both have swirl flaps, only difference being the RHW has a wastegate vacuum controlled turbo, rather than the VGT unit on the 4HX and the longer block (only stroke that changes) that makes the 4HX a 2.2 - but the 2.2 16v pistons fit inside a 2.0 block so you can use the original mounting points and save you twatting the sump on everything, no modifying the lower engine mount to fit and the hassle of changing the engine capacity on the logbook - not that it's much hassle, but when you include the insurance increase from a increased capacity engine and it's the same cylinder head, so due to the fact it's turbocharged already, you're not going to see a significant increase in VE/Power for the extra 200cc or so - the 2.2 bottom end also has balancer shafts which makes the rotating assembly quite a bit heavier and not want to rev.

My personal opinion is that given the right turbocharger and injection system, you can smash up a 2.0 litre bottom end and clutch without worries from massive torque - so the increased torque you'd get from a 2.2 isn't worth it, I'd rather spin the engine a bit faster... But that's my personal opinion...

RE: 2.2 Hdi - procta - 14-05-2015

there was a video of it running when andy had it, showing what it was like. As the lads had been asking him for months! As he was very tight lipped about it sadly,

RE: 2.2 Hdi - Poodle - 14-05-2015

That's because he didn't have a clue what it was or how to look after it, poor thing rotted in his care.

Nah poodle Andy was very, very brave buying it, as it wasn't exactly bob on when he got it, The wiring loom was a right birds nest, the plumbing was bit questionable and shell needed a really good tidy up. Andy had tried to iron out a few things with it, even winding back the boost on it.
Sadly Andy didn't really have the time or budget to plough into it, but that's what happens when you buy someone elses conversion.

RE: 2.2 Hdi - Poodle - 14-05-2015

Fair enough, from his project thread, or lack thereof, i got the impression it was left to moulder. He even said it rarely got driven and ignored any technical questions, which generally means the asked doesn't know the answer. Meh, apologies to him if i've been unfair, only going on what i'd seen on the forums back in the day.

Derailed this thread a touch, my bad, back on topic. Blush

Yeah that would have been when he was doing the taxi run, tbh poodle I don't know really why he bought it, as it did just sit more than it did get used. I am sure DDD did a video of it running.

here is the thread of it, Christ your talking 6 years ago now!

RE: 2.2 Hdi - Silverainbow - 25-05-2015

Ok guys, turns out this is a 2ltr 16v not a 2.2, is the pump off it any good as an upgrade for my 2ltr 8v hdi or would I be better off finding a 2.2 one

Cheers

Tris

RE: 2.2 Hdi - Poodle - 26-05-2015

It'll say r70 on the pump if it's any good, 99% sure you need the one off some of the 2.2s (not all).

RE: 2.2 Hdi - HDi--Power - 27-05-2015

2.0 16v are all r70 Smile

RE: 2.2 Hdi - Poodle - 27-05-2015

Are they direct fit though? The 2.2 pump is, but i wasn't aware of any others. Great, if so!

RE: 2.2 Hdi - Ruan - 27-05-2015

2.2 16v 4HX and 2.0 16v RHW are pretty much identical, it's really only the block that's different.

RE: 2.2 Hdi - HDi--Power - 27-05-2015

Yes direct fit, same pump actually

RE: 2.2 Hdi - Poodle - 28-05-2015

Ideal, that should make life a lot easier, thanks for that.
