Mole grip/vice grip etc - lolsteve - 01-05-2015 So wanting to go round and freshen up the slider pins on the calipers but in true rover fashion they were rusted to hell last time i went near them. One as I recal wanted to round so to avoid this i was thinking of using mole grips to full on grab themĀ Would i want flat faced as theyre hex nuts? http://www.amazon.co.uk/Draper-Series-09216-Straight-Jaw-Self-Grip/dp/B002ZNBN38/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1430473291&sr=8-2&keywords=mole+grip RE: Mole grip/vice grip etc - highwayman306 - 01-05-2015 you planning on renewing them? RE: Mole grip/vice grip etc - lolsteve - 01-05-2015 I'll be trying normal socket first and if I feel they're going to round I'll use the mole grip route as replace as I imagine it'll knacker the head? If they come out easy thiugh I'll just clean and refit RE: Mole grip/vice grip etc - highwayman306 - 01-05-2015 yeah i was thinking of the state of them after you've chewed the head up with the mole grips, if you were replacing them though it wouldn't be so bad Good luck mate, let us know how you get on RE: Mole grip/vice grip etc - C2K - 09-05-2015 Depends how ham fisted you are. I used mole grips to liberate the seized sliders from my neighbours Focus estate (Full Ford SH doncha know). I didn't cause any damage - clamp round a rag if you're worried. You'll be hard pushed to do some irreparable damage tbf. My Rover ones never ever seized in position, had no issues at all with brakes sticking on in 12 total ownership years. I had very few mechanical 'issues' with any of tem tbh, just rust. RE: Mole grip/vice grip etc - zx_volcane - 09-05-2015 if you're gonna buy mole grips, buy a decent pair - those linked look absolutely awful, will prob break / twist, not grip halfords professional / advanced do a half decent pair that you ca pick up off the shelf rather than online RE: Mole grip/vice grip etc - RetroPug - 09-05-2015 I've a pair of the black halfords ones I bought a few years ago, they are good. RE: Mole grip/vice grip etc - lolsteve - 12-06-2015 As an update, got the Halfords black ones. Very impressed and saved my bacon a couple of times already Mole grip/vice grip etc - rocker8742 - 12-06-2015 +1 for the halfords one, my set lasted me a few years until they twisted and now don't close fully, still work alright even now though lol Replaced them with an irwin set which are good but don't grip quite so well |
