Tyres - c.gerrard - 25-04-2012

Hi to you all,

Right, I've got some cyclones and now i need some tyres for them, as they dont all match and it would be nice to have some new ones. The only tyres that have been properly recomended to me are the Toyo T1R Proxes. I've been told that, although they are cracking tyres, they aren't as good as they once were and for a bit of extra money you could get much better ones.

So just wondering what options there are out there.

Re: Tyres - Scott - 25-04-2012

Look into getting 195/50/15s as they're a cheaper tyre size first of all, but I'll sum up Phil's post for you since I've had all 4:

T1R - a decent mid-range tyre, decent grip and decent lifespan.
Yokohoma Parada Spec-2 - Excellent tyre, although not so great in the wet (bearing in mind I was running 205/45/17s). They won't last as long as the rainsports, aren't as good in the wet, but are the best of this bunch in the dry; very very good dry grip.
Uniroyal Rainsports - Good grip in wet and dry, and good lifespan.
Eagle F1 - The NCT3 was the one to get, and is a very good tyre. I don't believe they make the NCT3 anymore (it's now the NCT5, which hasn't had as good reviews from what I've seen).

Go for the Yokos or Uniroyals, you won't be disappointed with either.

Re: Tyres - c.gerrard - 25-04-2012

haha, just thought i'd see what other people thought nothing personal lol Is it better to for 195/50's over 195/55's then?

Re: Tyres - Anton - 25-04-2012

Haha. I started the tyres threads....

I chose spec 2's in the end and they are amazing*

(*in the dry, in the wet they will kill you)

I was meaning the starting of another thread lol 50s are cheaper and will make the car handle better due to smaller sidewalls Smile

Re: Tyres - ginge191 - 25-04-2012

Re: Tyres - THE_Liam - 25-04-2012

I'm going for the Uniroyal Rainsports if I keep my Octavia, Proxes are great tyres in the dry but pretty poor in the wet, which is a BIG problem is this country Wink

Only problem is the price, £391 fitted is the best I can find for a set of 4 Sad

Just had a quick look over, though they should be fine? Demon tweeks have been about for a while now.

lmao never heard of them Tongue

Re: Tyres - ginge191 - 25-04-2012

yeh, except when i knew demon tweeks it was a lot of ripspeed and maxpower gear; could they do REAL tyres?? :|

Re: Tyres - Anton - 25-04-2012

That's about the going rate for them.

I got two fitted through black circles for £114.

Well actually it was tesco tyres but it's the same company.

Re: Tyres - ginge191 - 25-04-2012

fair one - maybe tyres round here are expensive then. I use the back street tyre provider, cheapest around for poor roads at the moment, £40fitted a tyre...for an extra tenner i could get some decent spec tyres fitted :|

Re: Tyres - Anton - 25-04-2012

Go for decent tyres mate, makes so much difference.

Now I've got them and gti6 brakes using ferodo pads it literally is epic. Three figures to standstill has been halved, no joke.

Re: Tyres - Jonny81191 - 25-04-2012

I'd say don't go with 50 profiles, it's much worse to drive on the motorway, and it'll be worse still with DT gearing.

And in my experience, proxies are fine in the wet..

Tyres - THE_Liam - 26-04-2012

I'm still not sure what to do with the Octavia. It should wear 205/45/17, but they're unbelievably expensive, like £140 a corner for anything good, but 225/45/17 are more like £90 a corner and I can't see why they wouldn't fit fine...

Re: Tyres - Ben Jay - 26-04-2012

I cant belive how cheap Camskill are!
