What tools will I need for changing wishbones, drop links, rear beam
I've got to start buying new tools as I've lost mine somehow.
I'm only going to buy when I need to do something, so what tools and sizes do I need to complete?
I'm guessing some sort of 1/2 socket set?

Id go with the above, get one of the larger sets and it will cover most jobs

angle/disc cutter for removing droplinks
any job on a french car will have the full set of sockets to use from 10-24mm including all the wierd sizes 14-15-16-18mm

Also if your doing a beam change and changjng brakes get six sided brake pipe spanners

I got the 200pc halfords set and it's great has pretty much everything I need and as said get the brake pipe spanner as well. Really helps

Decent socket set, decent spanner set (swan-necked are handy), brake pipe spanner, soft-faced mallet, pry bar, breaker bar, torque wrench, brass wire brush (clean the threads on the drop-links before even attempting to loosen the nut) and lots of penetrating spray (i.e. NOT WD40 - Try PlusGas).
It's taken me years to build my tool set, and I'm still adding as I go along.

Bollocks to brake pipe spanners, your money is better spent on a GOOD pair of mole grips - long as you go tight on the first try, you won't have any problems.
The ones under the beam get abused with salt and shit for many years, they will just instantly round off with any type of spanner, you can't get the grip you can with a GOOD pair of mole grips.

Small hammer, big hammer, screw driver, duck tape, and wd40
If needs be you can add fire to that list but hat is more a force multiplier rather than a required tool

Halfrauds tool sets are sweet, I bought mine when i got the car and have only added a few bits *rolls eyes*
also get:
mole grips
3/8 ratchet + socket set
long 13mm socket
5mm hex socket
piston winder
15mm sockets (long and short at 1/4, 3/8 + 1/2)
oil filter wrench (chain n handle type!)
spare knuckles
plasters
blood transfusion kit
defibrillator
breaker bar
just a few little bits and bobs
but you do get most with a tool case from Halfrauds 
Iv left a few bits off the list but you'll find what you need later on down the line haha

I cant talk as i have a massive tool box and loads of stuff but ive gathered it all over a period of 15 years or so.
Still have my first cantilever toolbox my grandad gave me when i was ten, its still full of imperial and whitworth spanners ive never needed

I walked into halfords yesterday and asked the guy there 'do you have any imperial sockets?'
he replied, 'what make is that, we only do silver line and halfords brand'
I face palmed and said il just have these cheers mate...pfff shocking!

That is a special kind of special
but i suppose these kid these days will never need to know about imperial! I started out on classic cars and vintage / classic tractors so imperial is definitely in my vocabulary

well the guy was older than me, the berk I'm barely 30! I only want a 1/4 socket for my hex bits, they come in handy. I used to have loads of imperial bits and pieces when I was in engineering but that tool kit has depleted over the years

The imperial side of my halfords set never gets used unless I need something I don't mind hitting with a hammer.

I use the imperial side quite a lot... When you've lost the 16mm in the pile of parts and tools all over the floor I find the 5/8 socket does the job just as well...
On topic though, Matt's owned 306s for at least 5 years, I can't believe he doesn't have ANY tools to use!?

Spark plug sockets make no sense tbh, sure they're just having a laugh writing 10mm on there...plus they don't even work for spark plugs!! The insert just pulls out and gets stuck on the plug after tightening.

I've only owned diesels so the spark plug sockets are mostly useless. Only time I've needed to use one is on the moped and then I have to borrow one from dad as they don't fit.

The 200pc kit halfords do is awesome, best decision I made was getting that around Christmas time. Has almost everything I need, just got a machine mart catalogue so more stuff will be added

And a 3 foot bit of scaffolding pole. Out of a skip.

THIS! that deep set 16mm (ahem 10mm plug socket) is the most used in mine besides the 13mm

I had a lot of tools, I had a tool bag almost brimmed, and now it's empty. I genuinely think someone has been taking my tools one by one and I just haven't noticed haha

The 200 peice looks real good, if I start saving now I should be able to affor it in a couple of weeks haha

I got a small bench grinder last night from Aldi's tools section, with flexi attachment missing, £7, went to turn it on and it popped.. sending me a new one out FOC (can keep the old one for spares) WITH the flexi attachment, saving £23!!!
