questions on front mount boost - philpemberton94 - 25-01-2015

Eventually got round to fitting my fmic the other day, all went well execpt i am now reading 16 psi on full chat, which was wastegate pressure after the pump  tune, instead of 20 on a mbc with the top mount, it seems to pull just aswell if not better with the 16 psi and fmic but is it normal to see a drop in psi?

I am fairly sure i have no boost leaks as i have checked many times, but not ruling it out.

Cheers

You will see a slight lower boost pressure as the area to fill with boost before it actually gets down the inlet is larger.
Id expect it to be making the same if not more power even at 16psi due to the denser air

Right that makes sense, yeah definetly pull as well/bettter with the fmic, would it make sense to turn the boost up or leave it to be safe with it being denser?

You have a boost leak.

Turn it up yeah, mine dropped a few psi when i went fmic
And i didnt have any leaks

Shouldnt see less boost.
Boost leak be my guess.

Use a strong solution off fairy liquid/water in a spray bottle and check all the joints

Ive tried the fairy liquid method and found nothing, also cant hear anything?

I saw slightly less boost going from top mount to front mount

I always thought that as the temperature of the air dropped so did the pressure, that's why 30 bhp of boost from a standard turbo doesn't really give any more power than 25psi? (the pressures are mostly just higher because the air is warmer, it doesn't actually force much more oxygen into the engine)

Cold air is denser than hot.... Don't know how that might lower pressure though
