Coilover protection - lolsteve - 09-01-2015

Anyone know of a product or guide on making some kind of boot to put over coilovers?
Just had them refurbished and would like to put them on the car but not a fan of getting grit and stones on the new rodsĀ

There are neoprene boots you can use but tbh they're as much a hindrance as they hold moisture in as much as out.

best bet is just some vaseline or similar on the threads and keep the rest clean, if theyre cheap coilovers they will never last particularly long

I sell them and just recommend to use lithium grease, dirt will stick to the grease to when it comes to adjusting them a wipe with a reg and there as good as new.

Good covering of grease when first putting them in then every so often clean them up and re grease thats what I done, ive heard of ones wrapping cling film around the threads after greasing dont know how well it works or not tho...

Just give them a good coating with ACF-50 every so often.

Amazing stuff.

Have a Google for it.

Yeh you can get covers but they are expensive and pointless. Dirt and water get under them as said above.

Turns out the Gaz ones new have a dust boot, which is what I was looking for. However mine do not and the rod is exposed to the elements.

Will grease up the threads when putting them on though to resist the seizing
