URGENT: Throttle Cable - Ed Doe - 16-04-2012 Ok so I'm becoming increasingly worried about my throttle cable. Which was beginning to fray when I bought the '6 back in Nov 2010.... It's on it's last legs now, and I really want to get it sorted asap! Is anyone going to Ace tonight who's done a cable before? Should I be getting a full replacement (sleeve & cable) or just the cable? Can anyone give me a hand to fix it at ace?!?! Thanks in advance x Re: URGENT: Throttle Cable - Ruan - 16-04-2012 Seriously, Ed, it's a 10 minute job to fit, not difficult at all... Just buy the cable, get under the dash and you'll soon work out how it goes together... It's awkward to get the end on the top of the pedal, but it'll take you 30 seconds... Re: URGENT: Throttle Cable - Ed Doe - 16-04-2012 I've heard it's not that bad, but do you think I should just replace the cable itself, or the sleeve too? If it's just the cable i've heard it is pretty easy... Re: URGENT: Throttle Cable - Fozzy - 16-04-2012 Just replace it all, it cant be any harder than replacing the clutch cable. And it didn't take me long to do that Re: URGENT: Throttle Cable - mark_airey - 16-04-2012 Someone needs to help remove it and then just point and laugh to provoke you into fitting the new one yourself ![]() As said, it can't be any harder than a clutch cable............ Re: URGENT: Throttle Cable - Ruan - 16-04-2012 No, replace the entire item. Don't be a pikey. It's easier to replace the entire thing, than just the cable. Re: URGENT: Throttle Cable - darrenjlobb - 16-04-2012 Replace the whole thing..... Cant imagine why anyone would just replace the cable for the sake of a quid....The outer bit wears to / looses its lube, which makes them stiff / wear out.. Easy job to change, get on before it breaks, petrol wont go anywhere at idle like a diesel can ![]() Re: URGENT: Throttle Cable - Niall - 16-04-2012 MTFU! We will do it tonight easy. Re: URGENT: Throttle Cable - Fozzy - 16-04-2012 darrenjlobb Wrote:petrol wont go anywhere at idle like a diesel can Why does this make me think you have had this happen and you, an you have crawled home in 2nd gear on idle? URGENT: Throttle Cable - Ed Doe - 16-04-2012 Right in that case can someone link me to the complete kit?! Lol Re: URGENT: Throttle Cable - darrenjlobb - 16-04-2012 Fozzy Wrote:darrenjlobb Wrote:petrol wont go anywhere at idle like a diesel can 2nd?! 4th with fuel screw in for 3.5krpm idle! drove from st austell to my house, 15 min drive, using the key as a throttle, get on. Could do the same in a perv I guess by tieing the body wide open and using the key ![]() ![]() ![]() Re: URGENT: Throttle Cable - mark_airey - 16-04-2012 darrenjlobb Wrote:2nd?! 4th with fuel screw in for 3.5krpm idle! drove from st austell to my house, 15 min drive, using the key as a throttle, get on. Why does this not surprise me at all Darren? ![]() Re: URGENT: Throttle Cable - Fozzy - 16-04-2012 Hehe, bloody farmers ![]() Ed if you were closer im sure i have a spare throttle cable you could have for free Re: URGENT: Throttle Cable - springs - 16-04-2012 when i got a kit from camberley auto factors it was a "universal" cut to measure kit with a variety of ends for the pedal etc.. That was pretty easy to fit.. |
