Whine on startup? - Ash J - 20-11-2014

Noticed there is a whine or something when starting my 1.8 16v from cold. Best I can describe is like a supercharger whine? It's when idling.

Goes after being warmed up for a few mins.

Ideas?

Ash

I think its just a characteristic of the engine as my old one was like that and i believe Grants one was as well.

it'll be a tensioner somewhere down in the belts, or a belt too tight maybe?

Very likely be a tensioner mate? Can you start the car and get ya head under the bonnet to try to pinpoint the area where the sound originates?

Yeah, it sounds like it is coming from the left hand side of engine near drive belts etc from what I can tell.
