160k hdi thinking stage 2 - pugdan95 - 05-11-2014
My hdi has done 160k would going stage 2 knacker it? New clutch done last week and thinking more power but will engine handle it?

Was your new clutch a paddle clutch?
If not, you will have to go for a stg2 limited or stg1+

Limited torque map should be okay on a normal clutch as that's the point of it? Also what brand of clutch? a cheapo ebay special will probably not help

No standard clutch will be suitable for a full stg2 map.
But a stg2 limited or custom stg1+ map should be fine!

You might find you get fuel pressure problems if you go stage 2, only way to find out other than trying it is a long session on pug planet checking out your iq corrections and fpr duty cycle and the like.

Well that's not true, what frosty said.. providing you have some sort of mechanical sympathy on a new OEM clutch there's no reason it won't hold. Ours has held for a few years with no slippage on a full fat map.

Thats good to know as im going stage 2 soon.

Yeah genuine valeo, it wasn't even brand new, it'd done about 1000 miles or something?
Started out on a stage 1, then stage 2 limited torque and then full fat and it's been fine ever since. Give or take, 280 lb/ft
I don't know whether the gradual increases in torque helped the bed in process or what.. but everyone I've known to have a stock clutch and have issues has gone from either stock or S1 straight to full fat

I went S1 > S2 Ltd > S2 (major slip) > S2 Ltd.
Roughly 76,000 miles, original clutch.

Sounds about right tbh, our original stock clutch started slipping badly (at peak torque) at about 95k and that was only stage 1

There's no guarantee, at the end of the day you're putting near enough twice the standard torque through the clutch but.. providing you don't constantly mat it from low revs in higher gears, you'll probably be alright.

At least it'll sound good then...
As Danny says, it's all down to how it's driven really. Keep slipping the clutch, doing traffic light grand prixs or doing hard 30-70 overtakes all the time the clutch will wear out quickly...
Definitely don't do all of the above on a standard 130k mile clutch on a remapped Golf...
