Noises! - Nicks306 - 02-11-2014 Hi everyone. This is a bit of a funny topic as the best way to describe it is that when im in 3rd or 4th gear and i take off the throttle and let the car slow down its sounds like a airplane landing or taking off!! Ive had a few guesses from people on facebook to what it might be but i really have no idea! Ive got a hdi btw. Thanks RE: Noises! - Toms306 - 02-11-2014 Stop driving past the airport. Probably the gearbox though tbh. Noises! - Nicks306 - 02-11-2014 Haha now that would make sense. Im glad u said gearbox ive been told that too. What exactly would it be wrong with the gearbox? RE: Noises! - Toms306 - 02-11-2014 A bearing somewhere. Its fairly common though, particularly the diff bearing. If its just a noise I'd leave it until you can feel it tbh, I haven't had a 306 with a silent gearbox so far lol. Noises! - Nicks306 - 02-11-2014 Ah i see thanks for that, ill just put the radio up a bit loader for now then. Noises! - Nicks306 - 06-11-2014 What kind of effort isit to change the gearbox?? RE: Noises! - Piggy - 06-11-2014 Have you checked the oil level? Has it got the right oil in it? I be checking both those things before getting the box off! Is it a more of a whine or a roar!? Noises! - Nicks306 - 07-11-2014 Yeah checked the oil level thats fine and yeah same oil as I've always used. Its more of a whine and im coasting down. RE: Noises! - E_KEL95 - 07-11-2014 Do hdi's not normally have a whiny gearbox? Mines had an so did a few others I know, does it disappear when you put the clutch in? Noises! - zx_volcane - 07-11-2014 Yeah could be released bearing on clutch if it goes away when you dip the clutch Noises! - Nicks306 - 08-11-2014 No nothing happens when i put the clutch in, just get it all the time when decreasing speed. RE: Noises! - Toms306 - 08-11-2014 Clutch shouldn't make a difference, its the diff bearing, and yes they all do it these days lol. If theres a difference with the clutch, its likely to be release bearing....I wouldn't leave that though, they can create a mess when they finally fail... Noises! - Nicks306 - 31-01-2015 Hi Guys Finally after a mind numbing process of trying to discover this noise it is now gone :-) After spending nearly 400 for the box to be re-furbed which i was told was the problem, then to have the box come back and the noise was still there but a lot louder!! To find out from a different garage that it was a bloody wheel bearing all along!! Not a very happy situation but all sorted now and running as silent as a mouse. |
