Uprated front and rear arbs - mossy1985 - 22-10-2014

I've done some searching and I see that someone makes a 30mm rear arb which people class as a hybrid bar? I was wondering if anyone can tell me if this Ash person is stil active and if so how to contact him?

Also after searching I'm not seeing any front roll bar upgrades? I see adjustable drop links but no larger bars. Can anyone shed some light on this for me? Is there an upgrade option? I'm the owner of a gti

Thanks

You'll need to check the trailing arm shafts and have them machined if required for some larger ARB's as most won't take anything bigger than about 26-27mm - certainly a 30mm bar won't fit the majority of standard shafts.

A 30mm rear ARB is massive though - standard GTi spec is 24mm.

The "hybrid" ARB is something else and much smaller

GTi's use a 21mm front ARB. There is a 22mm option available that's used on some Berlingo/Partner vans from memory, but to be honest you probably don't want to go much stiffer on the front ARB anyway as it's only going to reduce traction/grip on the inside front wheel. Increasing spring rate would be a better bet.

I must be getting confused somewhere then as i searched and found someone saying the hybrid bar is 30mm and it fits direct on without machining? I've only just bought the car and the suspension is spax but I'm not sure if its spax dampers and springs or if its spax dampers and another make springs? So I'm not sure what spring rate I have

Just had a search and looks like a hybrid ARB is 25mm one end and 28mm the other.

Defo not 30mm and 306 beams I've stripped won't take a 30mm ARB... but you might be lucky as there are trailing arm shafts out there which will. You really need to check what's fitted to your particular car.

You do realise how stiff a 30mm ARB is compared to the standard 24mm item, don't you? Quick calculation says about 250% stiffer!

Ermmmmmmmm not really after 250% truth be told lol but a small upgrade would be good, any suggestions?

What are you looking to achieve?

A harder back end, I'm going to upgrade to 21mm torsion bars and that a bigger roll bar would help
