Winter and snow tyres - Ben Jay - 28-09-2014 As a few of you know ive recently bought a hairdressers car its tail happy at the best of times but aparently in the winter when its icy its deadly! ive been doing some research into the best winter tyre and a brand called nokian came up has any one had any experience using them? and do people have any other recommendations on winter tyres? oh and they have to be 14s as im getting another set of wheels for every day tyres RE: Winter and snow tyres - Piggy - 28-09-2014 Hankook all the way. Not worth buying cheap ones. Seriously not. RE: Winter and snow tyres - Dum-Dum - 28-09-2014 dunlop ones are alright. RE: Winter and snow tyres - Rippthrough - 28-09-2014 Just bang some Rainsports on it and get the geometery all realigned - the problem with everything being adjustable on an MX-5 is it's often all over the shop after a while, then they are seriously tail happy in the wet because the rear wheels tend to toe out over time with wear and tear. RE: Winter and snow tyres - miles - 28-09-2014 Dunlops have always been spot on, generally get a very high rating, RE: Winter and snow tyres - Janne L - 28-09-2014 Nokian is the shit, built for OUR types of winter, not the brittish sissy kind ;-) They are not a cheap brand, quite the opposite to be honest but they are very good at what they do, I run Nokian hakkapellitta R, and have been doing so for about a decade. RE: Winter and snow tyres - impotentials - 28-09-2014 Nokian make mountain bike tires and they are very grippy, I assume they got on the maxxis band wagon RE: Winter and snow tyres - Matt-Rallye - 29-09-2014 Cant beat Kleber or Gislaved snow tires ![]() Hankook seem good but them you use the above and realise your a morron ![]() RE: Winter and snow tyres - Piggy - 29-09-2014 "them"...don't you mean "then"? ![]() RE: Winter and snow tyres - Matt-Rallye - 29-09-2014 Well spotted sir ![]() ![]() RE: Winter and snow tyres - Piggy - 29-09-2014 Hankook were used for many years on the wrc and national rallies for a reason. To be fair...I'm not on them now but they were the best snow tyre I ever drove on. RE: Winter and snow tyres - Matt-Rallye - 29-09-2014 I used to use them but now use Gislaved (swedish brand) ![]() Run some Kleber's on a 1.8 tddi focus the year before last through the winter and found them to be pretty damn good RE: Winter and snow tyres - Slam Wagon - 29-09-2014 Anyone got any models or links rather than just makes? RE: Winter and snow tyres - Matt-Rallye - 29-09-2014 Kleber Quadraxer ![]() Gislaved Euro Frost 3 (i run the euro frost 2's) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/205-55R16-GISLAVED-EURO-FROST-3-7MM-Part-worn-tyre-W300-/291250245887?pt=UK_Cars_Tyres_RL&hash=item43cfde10ff Hankook W442's (best snow tyre from hankook) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/195-45-16-HANKOOK-W442-XL-84H-WINTER-SNOW-TYRE-195-45R16-/261378266782?pt=UK_Cars_Tyres_RL&hash=item3cdb5bd69e RE: Winter and snow tyres - Slam Wagon - 29-09-2014 Top lad, just what im after. £100 per pair fot the hankooks in 195/50 RE: Winter and snow tyres - Matt-Rallye - 29-09-2014 Pretty sure those links are for part worns but they do show the tread pattern ![]() Cold weather tyres are a must! It should be the law like it is in Sweden etc. RE: Winter and snow tyres - Slam Wagon - 30-09-2014 The links are for all different sizes and stuff bit just needed models to be able to find some without going through all the summer tyres RE: Winter and snow tyres - Janne L - 30-09-2014 Just to check, is it common knowledge to you guys that there are three (at least) different classes if winter tyres? European friction, Nordic friction and studded? RE: Winter and snow tyres - welshpug - 30-09-2014 Most brits havent heard of winter tyres full stop! Im using michelin alpin btw. European friction, Nordic friction and studded? I knew there was studded but i believe they are illegal for public highway use in Great Britain, I could be wrong though. RE: Winter and snow tyres - welshpug - 30-09-2014 Afaik They arent illegal but there has to be sufficient covering of white stuff. This. Costs a few quid to get one properly set up but the difference is like night and day, especially if it's been lowered because that throws it all out. |
