IHI turbo questions.. - Matt-Rallye - 14-08-2014

Hi guys,

Im planning to stage 2 my HDi and have found a cheap but decent IHI VJ24 turbo and am wondering if anyone knows anything about them. Turbo has come from a 1995 Mazda Bongo 2.5TD Camper

Will this turbo be of any use if i strap it onto my hdi?

DISCLAIMER: I am a complete novice and know precisely f*ck all about diesel tuning so no big / complicated words please.

Thanks in advance
Matt

Bigger = better

Probable too old tbh, you'll find much more efficient turbos

And ignore him above, bigger is not always better, especially on a hdi.

This is Ozones sort of turbo.

Wouldnt have thought be useful on its own with a hdi.

As said, much smaller, better turbos out there. You said you going vnt in your project thread...GT17vnts are very common I would have thought at scrappies and be a decent stg2 cheap turbo option

GT2* VNT's off the BMW Diesels are also plentyful and have a 3 bolt flange, so not too bad for adapter plates and aren't usually too expensive..

I've seen a hybrid K03 on a HDi and with quite a fair bit of work it went extremely well! Not had much experience with VNT on these engines

That's about the same size as a gt17, you'll find that a lot of the stuff coming off 4x4s is a lot smaller than you expect. Probably be about right for a stage 2, there are more efficient turbos out there, but how cheap is cheap..? Bearing in mind i've never paid more than £50 for a turbo and i've got some crackers, albeit mostly of a similar age to this. Wink

Some great info here guys and very helpful Smile we are talking about a £30 turbo here!

We do have a GT17vnt on the shelf from an early bmw 320d but its a £165 turbo...
