Need to clear this up. Can i tow a car on a trailer? - HDIkyle - 02-04-2012 I have been told that if i passed my test after 1997 i am legal to tow anything upto a combined weight of 3500kg. Now i am after towing a 106 on a trailer so i have worked it out My car kerb weight 1200kg(wiki) 106 kerb weight 880kg(wiki) Trailer 600kg The 106 is completely empty and no fuel so should weight less than the stated kerb weight. Can i tow a car on a trailer? - Jenkosowls - 02-04-2012 iv always found it a very gray area as to whats what. i choose to follow what i interpret and so if ever i was to tow a trailer i would never exceed combined trailer and load weight of 750kg. a freind of mine who is only 19 believes he can tow his caravan as its not a "trailer" as far as im aware you have to have a seperate license for a caravan. When i passed my test i asked what im allowed and not allowed and the examiner turned round and said its eaier to just believe you cant as it can be complicated. How ever i found that if you ring the local traffic unit up there are very helpful they cleared up what you should tow a car with and wether it was leagl or not etc. even said to take note of his name and badge number if there was any problems as he would bare the brunt of any problems.
