306 Buying Guide? Wanting to buy a 306 but not sure what to look out for/which best - Smokeyboi - 16-07-2014 Okay so I own a MK4 Golf but it's shit, slow and has caused so many problems and It's completely f*cked now and I don't have much money at all so I need a cheap run around, I've always loved D-Turbos but I dunno much about them... What is the most reliable 306 to buy? and what should I be looking out for when going to buy one. Also I'm 19 so the cheaper on insurance the better. + where is the best place to look for one? I know you can get pure bullshitters on ebay. I know most of these cars have been ragged and are on high mileage but I hear these cars can run to 250K+ Cheers lads (Y) RE: 306 Buying Guide? Wanting to buy a 306 but not sure what to look out for/which best - RetroPug - 16-07-2014 The best place to look for one that will be reliable and need minimal work is on here. Wait until someone is selling one with a detailed project thread that they have looked after and done major work and servicing to. That way, you'll be buying something with a known past with minimal chance of being bullshitted. Certainly in terms of economical motoring one of the diesel 306s that hasn't been played with too much and has been looked after should be a good bet, with plenty of knowledge on here to keep you motoring. I believe sometimes insurance on them can be surprisingly high but not everyone seems to have experienced this. However, to fully answer your thread title, the best 306 is a gti-6. ![]() RE: 306 Buying Guide? Wanting to buy a 306 but not sure what to look out for/which best - toseland - 16-07-2014 if its modified look for the specialist insurance companies, you will get a stupid quote from run of the mill one for most modifications.. RE: 306 Buying Guide? Wanting to buy a 306 but not sure what to look out for/which best - r3k1355 - 16-07-2014 Buy this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/141343511413%20 It looks like a complete shed, but mechanically it's probably really good - it got round Europe without hassle, plus it's got tons of MOT on it. I'd wager you'll be able to get rid of all that silly spray paint with some thinners and a bunch of T-cut. RE: 306 Buying Guide? RE: 306 Buying Guide? Wanting to buy a 306 but not sure what to look out for/which best - Smokeyboi - 16-07-2014 Thanks for info guys and that 306 is about £100 more than I'm wanting to pay for something that looks like a kid has drawn all over it lol RE: 306 Buying Guide? Wanting to buy a 306 but not sure what to look out for/which best - Smokeyboi - 16-07-2014 Would £700 get me a good Dturbo? Not too bothered about mods but be great if it was lowered as torsion bar is not fun to mess with. Everything else I can do myself once I've earned enough dollar (lions, hids, smoothed and debadged) RE: 306 Buying Guide? Wanting to buy a 306 but not sure what to look out for/which best - bashbarnard - 16-07-2014 Paid £350 for other halfs no mods on with a short mot. Paid £550 for my 5 door turbo diesel one with tax and test. Both of which were ok just needed welding inner rear quater. Just paid £150 for my turbo diesel sedan that needed a lot of work. But really liked RE: 306 Buying Guide? Wanting to buy a 306 but not sure what to look out for/which best - Toms306 - 16-07-2014 Could get a HDi for £700!! XUD should be a lot less tbh... RE: 306 Buying Guide? Wanting to buy a 306 but not sure what to look out for/which best - bashbarnard - 16-07-2014 See I find hdis are genrally cheaper round our way. Theyre forever coming up. Took me an age to find a 5 door xud turbo RE: 306 Buying Guide? Wanting to buy a 306 but not sure what to look out for/which best - Toms306 - 16-07-2014 True but they're usually crap lol, hence the price, did you see the £150 estate I bought lol. Personal preference I guess, but being newer with more toys and usually less rust I'd pay more for a HDi (paid a whole £250 for my current one!) than an XUD. They are 'rare' round here though, cant remember the last time I sawan XUD for sale in Ipswich! RE: 306 Buying Guide? Wanting to buy a 306 but not sure what to look out for/which best - bashbarnard - 17-07-2014 True I paid £150 for the sedan. Not a spec of rust but my god its f*cked thats why the hatch is being robbed for parts. Perfect in every way but rusty as hell! Luck of the draw I guess RE: 306 Buying Guide? Wanting to buy a 306 but not sure what to look out for/which best - Josh1994 - 19-07-2014 I got my hdi for £696 is a good runner... And insurance on that is stupid.. im 20 and they wanted £2800??? Like wth i been driving for 2 years now... If anyone knows a good insurance cheap and allows mods please tell me as i want to get my hdi back on the road!!.. thanks.. RE: 306 Buying Guide? Wanting to buy a 306 but not sure what to look out for/which best - pioneer DJ paddy - 19-07-2014 Ye 3 doors are a lot more for insurance than 5 doors because the classed as a sports car are sumthing like that :-) i would go for a 5 door xud 1.9td i have one 4 years nw and never had any problems ;-) RE: 306 Buying Guide? Wanting to buy a 306 but not sure what to look out for/which best - RetroPug - 19-07-2014 Bear in mind that sub 1k cars typically cost more to insure than cars that are 1-2k in a lot of cases, especially if they are relatively expensive to insure anyway. Put the value down as £1100 instead of £8-900 when doing insurance. ![]() RE: 306 Buying Guide?
