Odometer drop out and power loss - steve1001 - 14-06-2014

Can someone point me in the right direction.

In the morning I start the car from cold and drive off.
The Speedometer and Rev counter work ok.
After a few miles and maybe around 10 minutes of driving, the engine temperature gauge just reaches normal operating temperature. At that point the Speedo needle goes to zero and the engine loses a little power. The rev counter remains ok.

The car is still very driveable and is not limping, just a small power loss. The power loss is not too much, but is enough to wake me up to the fact that things have changed.

After this first occurance, the Speedo then normally remains at zero for miles. After the first occurence, the Speedo and power then drop in and out randomly.

Most of my journeys are 1 to 2 hours.

Anyone have any ideas of where I should start looking/testing.

Thanks

Steve

Speed sensor on top of the gear box is giving up. Common issue and easy to change Smile

Don't know. That link just takes me back To the home page lol. It's a small white sensor with a 3 pin plug and a tab on the side for a bolt to secure it down to the box.

Sorry doogle. I still don't know yet. I have not got around to getting the part as I have had other things to sort out.
Mine has been doing it for about a year now (I really must get it sorted!)

On top of the gearbox? A white one? Cheers. Sorry for the hijack

Yes on top of the gearbox

Isn't it on the top of the diff casing? Thought reverse sensor was on the gearbox.
