Volvo XC90 D5 SE Manual (V50 for sale) - Anton - 08-05-2014

Theres been a lot of these lately, sorry in advance!

Basically the ZX is now off the road Sad, 70k miles has taken its toll and unfortunately the car is dying around the engine!

So basic details:

Up to 15k
Needs 4 seats
Needs to be economical, i drive around 6-800 miles a week and i'm used to 50mpg on veg.
150bhp plus

Ive test driven quite a few cars lately, at the moment standing out is a bmw 1 series coupe or a volvo c30/v40/s60.

Opinions please

How about a nice 206 special edition, think they did a lovely 5 door in green?

What to buy? - DavidA - 08-05-2014

Of the ones you mention I'd love a C30, but I also list after the Saab 9-3 TTiD which offers 160-180bhp and 60mpg.

RE: What to buy? - Scott - 08-05-2014

I'd probably get a 123d with full spec, bmw warranty, and some change Smile

RE: What to buy? - Anton - 08-05-2014

Scott a 123d coupe and change? I've been looking since January! Unless they are 6 years old or high miles i haven't seen one.

RE: What to buy? - Scott - 09-05-2014

Where are you looking? I've seen a load of them for around 12-13k (I know of one too, will pm you) with decent spec. I'll try to find some more shortly.

RE: What to buy? - THE_Liam - 09-05-2014

5 grand on a 635CSI and the rest on petrol?

RE: What to buy? - Scott - 09-05-2014

I think you'd be hard pressed to find a decent one without rust for that price unfortunately. You could get an awesome w124 coupe and be driving in luxury, though the fuel bills wouldn't be pleasant.

RE: What to buy? - THE_Liam - 09-05-2014

I don't know, 5 grand isn't a bad amount for a 635 in good nick, as long as it doesn't have to be a late car or a Shadowline. 2 grand buys a good W124 CE, and the fuel bills shouldn't be that bad. the E220 should do mid 20's round town and mid 30's on a run.

RE: What to buy? - Scott - 09-05-2014

For sure, but I'm thinking if you're going to get a w124 you should get a proper one ninja

RE: What to buy? - Anton - 09-05-2014

Liam i would love to have something old like that, but in reality i don't think i'd want to be in it 12 hours a week and maintain it.

So far i've seen a nice C30 D4 in Portsmouth that may be the one.

I'm different, more time I'm going to spend in a car, more I want it to be interesting Wink

RE: What to buy? - Anton - 16-05-2014

Volvo C30 D4

RE: What to buy? - 1616six - 16-05-2014

e92 335d all day long, gorgeous on one of the bm forums for £13k

Theres a vid of one on youtube with just a map beating a c63 amg in a 1/4 mil

Edit:

my bad didnt see youve already purchased

RE: What to buy? - C.A.R. - 16-05-2014

Nice, is it an R-Design one? I really like them, boot hatch doesn't look practical though!

Just bear in mind when it snaps its "never needs replacing" timing chain, BMW will not replace it for you even if its under warranty. Some were lucky and got a discounted bill as "good will".
Nice of a premium manufacturer to bail out on its customers like that!

RE: What to buy? - Anton - 16-05-2014

Talks of 330d and 335d are stupid, nowhere near economical enough for the mileage i do. May aswell save money on the purchase price and buy a petrol.

Its a late 2010 R Design. When i originally looked at one a few months ago i was put off by the boot. However the rear two seats fold completely flat and I rarely carry passengers, if its too small i will change it. 177bhp and 295lbft should be adequate as a daily, if not i'll get a Rica remap.

Looks lovely, really like these, bit more interesting than most stuff in its class/of its age!

RE: What to buy? - Anton - 16-05-2014

Thanks, exact reasoni chose it. A bit different etc. Plus Volvo build quality is insane. Plus plus 5 cylinder 20V VNT turbo Wink

RE: What to buy? - C.A.R. - 16-05-2014

Seriously cool looking hatch IMO!

How much was it then bud?

RE: What to buy? - Anton - 16-05-2014

10.8k

RE: What to buy? - Piggy - 16-05-2014

Serious bit of kit. Heard that mpgs arent as good as claimed though...
But if that dont bother you....torquesteersmile!! Smile

RE: What to buy? - Anton - 16-05-2014

Well you've probably heard of the D2/Drivee, people did struggle to near the claimed mpg. However the D3/D4 are a fair bit more realistic, most people averaging over 50.

What to buy? - DavidA - 16-05-2014

I've driven a V70 D5 and the sound of the engine is something else...don't want to lift off !

RE: What to buy? - Pete - 17-05-2014

Nice, The missus has a 2010 R design aswell...Lovely car but only a 1.6D though so its not the quickest.

The look awesome dropped on bigger wheels too

RE: What to buy? - Anton - 28-08-2014

Just bumping this, put about 6k miles on it. Really liking it so far with no problems as of yet.
The boot really isnt an issue, the fact the rear seats fold flat is actually very handy. Done a fair few trips pretty loaded and got everything i needed in.
Been averaging around 50mpg since i got it, some tanks under but some over. If i really try i can average over 60mpg on a run.
Performance still surprises me now, its just so effortless and pushes along so easily. You really have to keep an eye on things. Now i do a fair amount of miles and ive had 14 cars i think. This car covers ground faster than anything ive ever had. Its not as quick as the ZX but the suspension is pretty awesome. The b roads near me are quite rough and although not as fast this will get you there quicker than the ZX.

Looking at a brake kit, going to be about £1000. (I miss cheap french parts).

Cheers

RE: What to buy? I bought a Lolvo C30! - procta - 28-08-2014

I toyed with the idea of getting one of these 2 years ago, getting shot of the metro for one, but I chose to be debt free.

RE: What to buy? I bought a Lolvo C30! - Atterz - 28-08-2014

Awesome cars, was definitely on my short list. Ill probably end up with a Lolvo at some point, i do like Swedish cars!
