fixable? - John1.4 - 05-05-2014

found some rust whilst cleaning out the car today... brown stains running down the carpet sides of the boot... Sad

[attachment=15974]

looks pretty shitty to me.. i've seen this is a commonish problem, fixable? or should i just scrap it, get something different / better?

RE: fixable? - Toms306 - 05-05-2014

That's not even a big hole compared to some I've seen!

If you can weld its fixable...if not, might be a bit pricey at garage. Confused

RE: fixable? - John1.4 - 05-05-2014

time to get a new welder then Tongue

As said its fixable, no point in scrapping a car for a hole like that imo. Is the arch liners in the car?

I'm gonna hazard a guess here and say probably not. Tongue

Anything is fixable

RE: fixable? - John1.4 - 05-05-2014

nah no arch liners, is that a PH1 thing? or are mine just missing?

gonna go through the entire car finding and fixing rust now... any other common areas to check first?

Re: fixable? - bashbarnard - 05-05-2014

Mine was way worse but I sorted it had to cut the whole inner rear quarter out. My other half's was like yours took my about 5 hours plated Sean sealed and we are undersealing today.

RE: fixable? - Toms306 - 05-05-2014

Phase 1 and 2 don't have a full liner on the nearside rear. Most ph3 estates don't either. You should have the other 3 on all models though.

Oh, and while you're checking for rust, check the chassis rails at the front, and the bulkhead on the driverside.

Yeh you can fix that. Fairly common and a good reason to get a welder.

i do stand by my comment though. With enough work and money, that could be fixed. Just be uneconomical!!!!
