Difference between bodies? - Nathan1305 - 23-04-2014

Just curious is there any difference between my 1.4 and a gti6 body and chassis wise? Apart from phase 3 bumpers?

RE: Difference between bodies? - Toms306 - 23-04-2014

The number of doors. Wink

But other than that, no the actual chassis is the same on all 3dr's.

Oh cool Smile so if I ever did a engine swap then I wouldn't have to replace anything else body wise

RE: Difference between bodies? - Dum-Dum - 23-04-2014

Only suspension and brakes

Pretty good to know Smile I suppose it would be cheaper on insurance to just get a GTI6 than declare an engine upgrade

RE: Difference between bodies? - Dum-Dum - 23-04-2014

Yeah and cheaper overall to just buy a GTI6 and ten you get all the toys too

RE: Difference between bodies? - Toms306 - 23-04-2014

Yeah, just buy a GTi6 lol, unless you wanted a 5dr one...

Haha it's more out of curiosity I'm 19 so insurance on a GTI6 is about £3200 because I'm a new driver so will be a few years till I get one Smile my 1.4 is £2000 for my insurance :/

RE: Difference between bodies? - bigcheez2k3 - 23-04-2014

Try adding your mum, nan, old person on there to bring the price down. I had both my parents on mine until I was 21.

RE: Difference between bodies? - Toms306 - 23-04-2014

There wont be any good ones left in a few years unfortunately. Its already getting difficult to find one...

My mum or nan doesn't drive :/ my dad does drive but doesn't live at the same address

That sucks :/ I love the gti6

RE: Difference between bodies? - Toms306 - 23-04-2014

Named drivers don't have to live in the same address...or even the same county...

You can still add him,
I lived away for a while and had both my parents on it and that brought it down still.

You might find a make driver doesnt make much difference. I always found if I put my mum and stepmum on it went down loads, soon as I added my dad it went back up.

Yeah it hasn't changed what I will pay monthly but it has dropped my deposit by half so that's a start Smile

If you want a gti6 then get a gti6. If you want a 5 door gti6 then you will need to swap the suspension, gearbox and associated cables and stick etc, ARB, rear beam, gti6 boot trim.

Definitely dont get a 1.8 and then spend all your money on it. That would be a very silly thing to do.

Yeah hopefully when I'm a bit older and my insurance drops I will get one Smile and haha guessing that's what you've done with your 1.8? Wink

RE: Difference between bodies? - Midnightclub - 24-04-2014

That's nuts, insurance on my GTi6 at 19 was about 800 a year? I'm only 20 miles down the road too!

That's insane! I'll be paying over £2000 on my 1.4 :/ really don't get why it's so much for me

RE: Difference between bodies? - Midnightclub - 24-04-2014

Damn :/ How long have you held your licence for? That seems to be what makes the biggest difference for me tbh

Like 2 months so that's probably why

RE: Difference between bodies? - Midnightclub - 24-04-2014

That'd do it! I had 3/4 years licence and the same no claims at the time, hence the cheap price!

RE: Difference between bodies? - Ruan - 24-04-2014

I was paying £550 on my GTi6 at 21?!

In Gloucester!

RE: Difference between bodies? - willJspears - 24-04-2014

its suprising how much a 1 yrs no claims will bring that quote down, come end of may when i get my firsts yrs no claims it will cost me around £1300 to insure my gti with me as named driver with mother and father added to the policy. would just wait it out till then tbh

RE: Difference between bodies? - Nathan1305 - 24-04-2014

Yeah gonna wait a year till I think about a gti6 Smile

RE: Difference between bodies? - Dum-Dum - 24-04-2014

1 years experience makes the biggest difference

You might actually find it as bad as you think to insure one as youths and people who cant drive for shit own 1.4s and TDs so they get crashed more than GTi6s so the risks can be lower.

Yeah that's a good point, I'll wait a year and get one Smile

Personally id wait longer mate. get your experience up, your no claims bonus up. No offence but youll onky go and write another 6 off.
