Swapping to a disc beam - Matt - 27-03-2014 Dropping the drum beam off my car, and fitting a disc beam, So a few questions A) will the brake pipes be the same? B) if not what do I need to make them up? I know I need copper piping, but size? C) unions/connections? What do I do here? ![]() RE: Swapping to a disc beam - Niall - 27-03-2014 brake pipes I'm not sure about but i know you need different handbrake cables. Either that or two bricks RE: Swapping to a disc beam - Toms306 - 27-03-2014 Yeah the brake pipes to the flexies will be the same, assuming the beam still has it's flexies in place. If you round/twist them you'll need brake pipe though, it's jut normal copper brake pipe...3/16". Can buy a 25ft roll from Halfords for about £8 on trade. Unions are easy as well, only seems to be one regular size, they are male unions into the flexies from the car. RE: Swapping to a disc beam - Matt - 27-03-2014 Nice one tom! The disc beam going on has the brake pipe cut. So I'm guessing remove those, and be carefull removing the original brake pipes from the drum beam, and then the brake pipes from the drum beam will fit the disc? Then I just need handbrake cables RE: Swapping to a disc beam - Toms306 - 27-03-2014 Which pipes are cut? I assume you mean the solid ones from the flexy pipe to the car as there'd be no point cutting the others, so yeah the ones from your car will fit the disc beam fine. Yeah cables are different as you've said. RE: Swapping to a disc beam - Matt - 27-03-2014 [attachment=14707] See where those pipes go, just above the load compensator, that's where they are cut RE: Swapping to a disc beam - Toms306 - 27-03-2014 Ah yeah, forgot about the load compensator as Im usually dealing with ph3s lol. But yeah, the same applies, that'll be fine. ![]() Its just the solid ones from the flexy to the calliper or cylinder that would be different afaik. RE: Swapping to a disc beam - Matt - 27-03-2014 Sweet, I'll take a look at it tomorrow. Hopefully most can be transfered from the drum beam if not? I put a Ph3 one on my Ph2 so just swapped compensator over with brake lines.. only different bit is onto the caliper obviously lol RE: Swapping to a disc beam - Toms306 - 27-03-2014 Yeah as above, its the solid line between flexy and brake that is different, but you' shouldn't need to touch them anyway. ![]() RE: Swapping to a disc beam - Matt - 27-03-2014 The disc beam I'm putting on is ph2, and mine is a PBS 2.5 lol so should be all good there. Time to start soaking shit I think. Just need some callipers and fittings sent to me now ![]() RE: Swapping to a disc beam - tomosy10 - 28-03-2014 Do you have to change anything else if your guna do a change as I don't no whats included. RE: Swapping to a disc beam - Matt - 28-03-2014 As far as I'm aware, you'll need A disc beam (complete with discs, callipers, pads etc) Handbrake cables Cooper pipe and unions (if yours f*ck up) It's all up there ^^ RE: Swapping to a disc beam - tomosy10 - 28-03-2014 I'm only wandering for future referance but find it hard to read and understand everyone wat they say unless someone tells me direct if you see wat I meen. RE: Swapping to a disc beam - Matt - 28-03-2014 Haha yep gotcha! I'm pretty much the same, long winded explanations go over my head. Someone gives be bullet points and I'm sorted. Hope that list helps. I'll be tackling this over the next week so I'll update with what's Definatley needed for you ![]() RE: Swapping to a disc beam - tomosy10 - 28-03-2014 Ok mate thanks. RE: Swapping to a disc beam - Toms306 - 28-03-2014 It's proper easy tbh... Remove exhaust backobox and spare wheel Slacken and remove handbrake cables from inside car (tying string to them so new ones are easier to install ![]() Undo solid brake pipes from flexible ones (or from the load comp if ph2) Take the weight of the beam with atleast a pair of jacks Undo 6 16mm bolts in the boot Lower beam to floor on jacks. Lift new beam into place with jacks Tighten and torque 16mm bolts in boot Refit and tighten solid brake pipe unions Replace handbrake cables Refit exhaust and wheel Bleed brakes/adjust handbrake There really isn't anything difficult, just a bit awkward as the beams heavy, and fiddly with brake pipe. RE: Swapping to a disc beam - Grant - 28-03-2014 If you need it Matt, I have a brake flaring tool and some spare copper pipe and unions (I'll have to double check i have the unions) RE: Swapping to a disc beam - Matt - 30-03-2014 I've got a flaring tool ![]() ![]() |
