White Smoke - New Engine? - silverzx - 07-03-2014 Come on then, do I need a new engine. Thick white smoke on startup, have changed: - turbo from K14 to TD04 - pump from Lucas to 11mm rebuilt Bosch, injectors & lines - glowplugs for brand new duraterms - fuel filter Running out of ideas. Is the engine likely to be on the way out? It doesn't pull that well considering its on an 11mm and TD04 and in an uber light chassis.. RE: White Smoke - New Engine? - mr_fish - 07-03-2014 Is it using water at all? White Smoke - New Engine? - Sambarker - 07-03-2014 Pump too advanced? RE: White Smoke - New Engine? - Chris_90 - 07-03-2014 Pump need advancing? RE: White Smoke - New Engine? - Tom - 07-03-2014 Do it idle ok or missing like a pig? Not that I'm aware of. Did it when it was retarded, still does it now its slightly more advanced. (07-03-2014, 04:12 PM)Chris_90 Wrote: Pump need advancing? Don't think any further adjustment will help but for the sake of loosening off three nuts I can certainly try.. (07-03-2014, 04:39 PM)Tom Wrote: Do it idle ok or missing like a pig? It idles like shit and kicks out white smoke. Once up to temperature slightly (after two-three minutes) it runs fine and the smoke dies down. Got an engine that needs ripping out of a scrap cherry DT too come to think of it! RE: White Smoke - New Engine? - Paul_13 - 07-03-2014 It's easy to do mate. Slacken off the 3 13mm nuts on the pump bracket. Grab the pump and push the top of the pump towards the bulkhead or towards you. It will be noticeable where the engine runs better and where it's happy. RE: White Smoke - New Engine? - Chris_90 - 07-03-2014 Mine was like this I advanced pump and it's gone completely RE: White Smoke - New Engine? - silverzx - 07-03-2014 (07-03-2014, 05:14 PM)Paul_13 Wrote: It's easy to do mate. Sorry I was having a blonde moment, I thought you meant the belt was out of time (skipped a tooth). It flew after I adjusted the pump and the problem went away. RE: White Smoke - New Engine? - padge - 07-03-2014 mine was doing same after we fitted the motor, pump just needed advancing. RE: White Smoke - New Engine? - Dave - 08-03-2014 Ide still say that's an injector issue, your timing sounds ok. It wouldn't start intially so we advanced it and it would start (like it does now) and clear up after being run. But yeah, as suggested by everyone will try tweak it tomorrow after work! I do have a spare XUD motor with a bosch on I could whip the injectors off of but it did it before on Lucas injectors (which have since been changed for bosch's). RE: White Smoke - New Engine? - Paul_13 - 08-03-2014 How much coolant is it using if it is? Also if the engine had been sat after being hot for a few hours, if you undo the header tank cap is there loads of pressure still in the system? RE: White Smoke - New Engine? - d2xud - 09-03-2014 Hmm what was you getting at with the built up pressure? RE: White Smoke - New Engine? - Danny2009 - 09-03-2014 Coolant pressurising meaning headgasket has gone d2xud RE: White Smoke - New Engine? - Dave - 09-03-2014 Have looked at these vids on a pc, your first video is defo either an injector/pump timing issue. And the second video I reckon its an injector missing. Like alot of other people have said try putting a little more timing on it. RE: White Smoke - New Engine? - silverzx - 09-03-2014 Adjusting pump tomorrow. Here's a few videos from today after it hasn't been started for a month! From cold: After few minutes: Random ragging: RE: White Smoke - New Engine? - silverzx - 10-03-2014 Didn't get around to adjusting timing instead managed to snap a subframe bolt and cross thread another. Had enough of it gonna break it for parts and get a 306, ideally a ph3 T reg or newer that I can put a XUD in and my private plate. RE: White Smoke - New Engine? - Paul_13 - 10-03-2014 Oh dear! White Smoke - New Engine? - devils_fuel - 14-03-2014 That sucks Trent...should never had got rid of that hdi after the time and money spent on it RE: White Smoke - New Engine? - silverzx - 20-03-2014 (14-03-2014, 09:12 PM)devils_fuel Wrote: That sucks Trent...should never had got rid of that hdi after the time and money spent on it Meh, wanted to stay in halls for 1st year of uni which meant selling it to make up money I didn't have. Glad I did though or I'd never of had this beast which led me onto love XUD's! - White Smoke - New Engine? - devils_fuel - 20-03-2014 Should have kept the HDI Trent IMO, it looked sweet after the blow over and FMIC. The HDI was faultless compared to the XUD... ...should have sold your body instead RE: White Smoke - New Engine? - silverzx - 20-03-2014 (20-03-2014, 08:20 PM)devils_fuel Wrote: Should have kept the HDI Trent IMO, it looked sweet after the blow over and FMIC. The HDI was faultless compared to the XUD... That was back in the day when they were still worth a good couple of thousand so could justify spending money on paint/body. To be fair I think it needed a battery but that was it! Was on its way to needing a clutch too on Whippys stage 2 IIRC! White Smoke - New Engine? - devils_fuel - 20-03-2014 Pfft what ever Trevor RE: White Smoke - New Engine? - silverzx - 20-03-2014 I'd start poking DumDum to bring your stalk and my exhaust manifold if I were you!
