What Have I Broke Now!? - Toms306 - 19-02-2014

Evening,

Was just wondering what the relay (or relay shaped object) on the back of the back of the battery box is for?

It'd gone brittle and when I unplugged it the casing just cracked. Hoping I haven't broken anything inside! Dodgy

Just wondered if its something important (fuel pump relay?) or not.

Tom

Very, it's the main power and fuel pump, Glue it up or make it watertight at the very least or it can just give up

Re: What Have I Broke Now!? - kentiiboii - 20-02-2014

It's power supply for the flux capacitor

RE: What Have I Broke Now!? - Matt-Rallye - 20-02-2014

I had the same problem last weekend! was stranded at the gf's for 2 days cos water got in the fuel pump relay and knackered it all up. replace it asap!

Usefull info: Any XU engined peugeot will have the same relay and fuel cut off switch Smile i pinched one off an XSi and it works fine on my Rallye.

RE: What Have I Broke Now!? - Toms306 - 20-02-2014

Ah crap, I'll tape it up for now then. Rolleyes

If anyone has a decent spare one they'd like to post me for cheap PM me please lol.

If you didn't know what it was, why we're you unplugging it?

RE: What Have I Broke Now!? - Toms306 - 20-02-2014

Makes it difficult to remove the battery box with the entire engine loom still attached. Thought it best to unplug it instead. Wink

RE: What Have I Broke Now!? - Matt-Rallye - 20-02-2014

I see what i can sort for you Tom Smile i might have another one lying around somewhere.

Would deffo replace it ASAP as it left me right in the sh*t lol

RE: What Have I Broke Now!? - Toms306 - 20-02-2014

Cheers Matt.

Leaving me in the shit (you've not been here long enough to realise how fitting that is!) is the very last thing I want!

I stripping the 6, I'll send it you for nothing but can't guarantee it'll work

Not quite true. Early and later cars use a different fitment relay - early cars have a metal clip on the relay socket, whereas later cars have the plastic sliding latch. Changeover was mid-90's ish.

As long as it's the correct fitment and from an XU petrol then as you say it should work fine though.

Some diesels (eg HDi) use a very similar looking relay but it's not interchangable.

RE: What Have I Broke Now!? - Matt-Rallye - 20-02-2014

Ah well thank you for clearing that up Smile

I stand corrected!

Thanks Kent, though please check which type it is first. Smile

Thats useful to know!

Mine has the sliding lambda style clip....but also had a metal clip holding the sliding clip closed! Confused Not sure if that's standard or if someones stuck it there to stop it falling out lol.

The HDi one doesn't fit anyway, as I have one of those lol.

RE: What Have I Broke Now!? - powerandtorque - 20-02-2014

The R-clip to lock the slider is original AFAIK but it's rarely refitted, so chances are that yours is still on the original relay.

RE: What Have I Broke Now!? - Toms306 - 20-02-2014

Ah right, nice! It didn't look OEM, and it's not like Peugeot to use the belt and braces approach with things lol.

It probably is the original relay, as said it was so brittle it cracked without any force at all really. Most things are original on this car tbf, all the bolts are nicely factory torqued instead of 'tight as possible' by whatever monkey seems to have fixed my cars in the past lol.

RE: What Have I Broke Now!? - Toms306 - 21-02-2014

Well this got a little worse this evening. Put the battery box in the bay and the relay just fell off! Dodgy lol

Still works currently though, but thanks to Kent I should have a replacement soon! Big Grin

RE: What Have I Broke Now!? - Niall - 21-02-2014

Tape over it. That's what I did and it worked fine till I got rid of it lol.

RE: What Have I Broke Now!? - Toms306 - 21-02-2014

Lol, was going to but no need now as I'm getting a replacement.
