Oil on unprotected paint work - DeeTurbo - 16-02-2014

Hi guys,

There are some oil stains on the paint work of the white estate I've just bought. I've washed the car with the car shampoo I usually use but it hasn't shifted it. The paint work looks like it's not been waxed in years, seems very porous and rough.

What would be the right way to clean the stains off?

Try some auto Glym tar remover worked wonders for stuff that's hard to budge on my paintwork

Not sure I've got any but I'll have a look, cheers.

Judging by the rest of the bodywork on that estate, sandpaper and a spray can or two would probably be more use! Big Grin

I always use fairy liquid and a bottle of gunk degreaser to clean cars i havent cleaned before (ones i plan to keep anyway) then you can tend to trouble areas then wax and polish to protect it.

A respray would be nice.

I was thinking of using washing up liquid and that's the way I might go.

Thanks guys.

Get some panel wipe, its used to remove oil before painting. really works well at removing tar too

Thanks for the link.

I tried some washing up liquid and it didn't shift it.

I'll have to dig out some tar remover, if that doesn't work I'll have to get some panel wipe.

Brake cleaner, just go easy. Used it to debagde a car once, worked great but there was paint coming off to.

RE: Oil on unprotected paint work - ADV_93 - 23-02-2014

G3/G6 compound paste will get that off.

RE: Oil on unprotected paint work - DeeTurbo - 23-02-2014

I was thinking some cutting paste. That is cutting paste isn't it?

I've got some t-cut, I know people don't like it but I need to use what I've got before buying new stuff :-(

RE: Oil on unprotected paint work - Daniel306 - 23-02-2014

probably would work, it will take a long time tho

RE: Oil on unprotected paint work - ADV_93 - 23-02-2014

T-cut wont touch it mate, g6 is an actual paste

RE: Oil on unprotected paint work - mr_fish - 24-02-2014

What about TFR. That's pretty keen stuff.

RE: Oil on unprotected paint work - powerandtorque - 24-02-2014

As someone above mentioned, panel wipe should do the job.

Certainly that got the oily handprints and marks out of the unlacquered white paint on my old 205 quite easily when normal washing and cleaning wouldn't touch it.
