getting hdi stage 1 upgraded - camoturd - 01-02-2014 Has anyone on here think it's worth it or going to stage 2 and if it is has anyone no anyone good to do it or someone on here able to talk me though doing it myself!!!!! But would rather have one I can do relatively easily RE: getting hdi stage 1 upgraded - pro_steve - 01-02-2014 Stage 2 is a lot of work when fitting the intercooler, but well worth it as the power gains are impressive. Are you good with mechanical work or would you get somebody to do it for you? If you're doing it yourself there are many guides on TDOCUK, look in the diesel section there is a 'stickied' thread in there somewhere. For power figures check out my site: www.hdi-tuning.co.uk RE: getting hdi stage 1 upgraded - mattyh24hdi - 01-02-2014 Hey steve got on here then thanks again for today. Just like to say this mans work is so good unbelievable difference. I got stage 1 well worth it everyone so quick now well for a 306 anyway ha RE: getting hdi stage 1 upgraded - jammapic - 01-02-2014 I've written a fair number of stage 1, stage 1+, stage 2 and stage 2+ maps now and if you can fit an intercooler and upgrade the clutch yourself it can be a really cheap way to great power. A stage 2 or stage 2+ hdi will really surprise a lot of cars.... Yeah got the intercooler and clutch I will get soon lol so stage 2 is option later but can anyone write a stage 1 or 1+ so I can do that lol cheers RE: getting hdi stage 1 upgraded - jammapic - 01-02-2014 Anyone who understands tuning, ecus and the software on them and has the relevant tools for flash tuning can yes. I'd be happy to help you learn if you are wanting to learn to tune....? Yeah I would love to learn how to as would be nice to say I put the work in to get my car to shift lol RE: getting hdi stage 1 upgraded - jammapic - 01-02-2014 We'll drop me a message and I'm happy to help.... I may have to mate u could have a look a bit as well what I can do lol Re: getting hdi stage 1 upgraded - maffy - 03-02-2014 I came across this question a few years ago and glad I fitted an fmic, whacked the boost up and got a custom map. Never looked back. RE: getting hdi stage 1 upgraded - dazza1232 - 28-02-2014 How much did u wack boost up by? Wantin to do mine as ive got boost contoller to fit n dont no what to take it up to, its currently runnin at 1 bar(ish) RE: getting hdi stage 1 upgraded - titch - 28-02-2014 (01-02-2014, 07:54 PM)jammapic Wrote: I've written a fair number of stage 1, stage 1+, stage 2 and stage 2+ maps now and if you can fit an intercooler and upgrade the clutch yourself it can be a really cheap way to great power. I have got nearly everything to go stage 2 just need the clutch. Whats stage 1 + RE: getting hdi stage 1 upgraded - jammapic - 28-02-2014 Just a bit more at the top end. Not for everyone though as it can be a little smokey. RE: getting hdi stage 1 upgraded - Poodle - 01-03-2014 (28-02-2014, 08:15 PM)dazza1232 Wrote: How much did u wack boost up by? Once you hit ~25psi it'll just be cooking the intake charge and making less power than before. RE: getting hdi stage 1 upgraded - dazza1232 - 01-03-2014 Ok i was thinking about taking it to 1.3 bar but i havent got a cooler yet, would it still be safe? RE: getting hdi stage 1 upgraded - Poodle - 01-03-2014 It's not worth going stage 2 or turning the boost up before you fit an intercooler, you'll just cook the engine quick time. RE: getting hdi stage 1 upgraded - Razorback_Rob - 01-03-2014 As previously stated you want to get all the requirements for keeping the engine cool before stage 2. I believe it's well worth the effort. I'm looking into doing it myself on my hdi. RE: getting hdi stage 1 upgraded - dazza1232 - 02-03-2014 Ye i have been looking into it but am not sure which cooler to buy cant find a cheap one RE: getting hdi stage 1 upgraded - Poodle - 02-03-2014 You're not looking properly then. Huge, large and small: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/saab-9-5-2-3-turbo-intercooler-/121281937922?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item1c3cf78202 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Megane-2-Intercooler-/151241236855?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2336ae2177 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/turbo-intercooler-/400663395062?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item5d49663af6 RE: getting hdi stage 1 upgraded - dazza1232 - 02-03-2014 I wanted a new one tho lol and i wanted one thats got more width than height like that megane one. RE: getting hdi stage 1 upgraded - Poodle - 02-03-2014 Ah i see, what you want is a shiny ebay one that's got really crap flow, but looks good through the bumper. RE: getting hdi stage 1 upgraded - dazza1232 - 02-03-2014 No not really. One with good flow obvs and an old ones not going too have as good flow as a new one RE: getting hdi stage 1 upgraded - Poodle - 02-03-2014 Introduce this to a jet wash and she should be just about right: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/fiat-punto-gt-front-mount-up-grade-intercooler-solid-alloy-/321338217099?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item4ad140128b Not being funny dude, but you can't have good flow, new, shiny and cheaps all at once, just not going to happen lol. Have a look on the forge motorsport site for an idea of your shiny, new, high-flow price range. What makes you think an old intercooler is going to flow less well than a new one? It's not like radiators which can get silted up - it's only got air flowing through it. RE: getting hdi stage 1 upgraded - dazza1232 - 02-03-2014 Yer dunt look bad that. I have done there about 85quid, i was just waiting to see if any cheaper ones popped up. If it is a new one theres a lot less chance its not going to have had oil are maybe any other rubbish going through it lol. But i suppose i could just jet wash it like you said. RE: getting hdi stage 1 upgraded - Poodle - 02-03-2014 Lol no, that's for the cheap and nasty ebay ones, decent ones go from about £200 upwards, look: http://www.forgemotorsport.co.uk/content.asp?inc=product&cat=0013&product=FMINT104UNI. That's only 500mm x 175mm too, which by the sounds of it is smaller than what you're looking for. You might be lucky and get one for less than a ton, but i'd be surprised. Fair enough, i see your point, but it's going on an old diesel at the end of the day - if it's not oily now it will be soon! The cheap new intercoolers tend to flow a lot less than most oem coolers thanks to the budget they've been developed on; the ebay ones are being sold on the strength of the shine, if you know what i mean. RE: getting hdi stage 1 upgraded - dazza1232 - 02-03-2014 85 was the price i got quoted at a specialist near me and supposed to have a descent flow so they say lol Yer suppose so think ill just go for a second hand one then. http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/111287429787?nav=SEARCH This one seems descent but not sure if i want one a bit bigger RE: getting hdi stage 1 upgraded - mcglynn - 03-03-2014 whats wrong with the toyosports ones on ebay for 50 quid poodle? lol theyve done me and even friends with highly tuned petrols just fine http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FMIC-FFRONT-MOUNT-TURBO-INTERCOOLER-2-25-TYPE-S-550x140x65MM/140743868336?rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222002%26algo%3DSIC.FIT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D74%26meid%3D5212193350990882673%26pid%3D100005%26prg%3D1048%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D4%26sd%3D400663395062%26 RE: getting hdi stage 1 upgraded - Poodle - 03-03-2014 Fair play, that's a bargain tbf. The toyo sports ones will do the job fine for what we're doing, but i'm anal about these things and like to do it properly lol. The larger volume will mean fractionally more lag and the lower proportional flow means a greater pressure drop across the cooler, it's mostly about efficiency i guess. I just don't like the idea of paying more for something that won't do as good a job, but then again my car looks like a tramp (matches the owner) so it doesn't matter what parts look like, as long as they do the job. Makes it much easier to get bargains lol. |
