HDI Accelerator pedal sensor P0220 fault - cully - 28-01-2014

for info

my HDI has thrown a fault code P0220 =
Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch B Circuit Malfunction(EDC15C2-Track 1)

car drives fine just shows a permanent engine light

i was unable to reset the code with my scangauge which led me to believe i had
either..
faulty (APP) Accelerator pedal position sensor
or
faulty broken wire
so with wire diagram in hand i set to tracing wires

My ECU IS A 3 PLUG EDC15 C2

sensor pin1.....> IC02A pin9......>32VGR pinG3 ECU
sensor pin2.....> IC02A Pin10....>32VGR pinC2 ECU
sensor pin3...............................>32VNR pinC3 ECU
sensor pin4.....> IC02A pin21.....>32VGR pinH3 ECU

[attachment=13148]

after checking out continuity from sensor to chassis plug to ecu
i found no fault

so i assumed there was an issue with the APP sensor

I reset with the scangauge again no effect

so i broke out Peugeot plant software diag tool
plugged it in scanned showed the same fault
tested the sensor output found to be fine

so went for a reset with planet!

which cleared the fault!
strange!......

I'm guessing not all faults can be cleared by a generic code reader
but planet is more indepth

thoughts?

Regularly have this problem, all but the best generic readers wont be able to do as much as the dealership tool, or even read the codes correctly.

Cully, sometimes you can fix this for free if you take apart the TPS and then clean out the grease. Bits of metal mix with the grease and interfere with the pickup in the sensor.

As for the diagnostics issue that does seem a bit odd...?

not had an issue since i did the reset with planet no sign of any engine light past the self check Wink

This is one thing that has plagued my car. I use to buy new ones but now at £335 from the dealer I no longer bother. I just live with the light on. I to have traced the wiring and at one time thought it might be the main plug on the engine loom but everything checks out ok.

Why is it in all the years we've had my g/f 206 HDI and my moms 406 HDI have these not ever had this fault come up? I'm starting to think it might have something to do with the location as it's right next to the rad and on the 206 and 406 its away from a heat source. I've also noticed on the newer petrol models of 206 they moved the TPS to under the scuttle panel! Well away from any heat.

I've been meaning to make a rig to power the tps up and connect it to an oscilloscope off the car to see if it goes through it's range without any dodgy signals to make sure it's the TPS and not something on the car. But I've not had chance yet.
