really silly question - cpikey316_ - 18-01-2014 is this an inside or outside kinda sticker? http://www.cafepress.co.uk/mf/15501622/if-this-sticker-is-blue-youre-driving-too-fa_bumper-sticker?productId=84583189 RE: really silly question - WiNgNuTz - 18-01-2014 Looks like an external sticker to me. RE: really silly question - cpikey316_ - 18-01-2014 Super super quick! Thank you! Been looking for a uk version for ages.... RE: really silly question - WiNgNuTz - 18-01-2014 Yeah, well y'know....social lives are for losers. ![]() RE: really silly question - Toms306 - 18-01-2014 I don't get it... ![]() RE: really silly question - WiNgNuTz - 18-01-2014 What, the sticker or the social life? ![]() RE: really silly question - Toms306 - 18-01-2014 Well both in all honesty! ![]() But the sticker's red... ![]() RE: really silly question - zx_volcane - 18-01-2014 (18-01-2014, 11:54 AM)Toms306 Wrote: But the sticker's red... doppler blueshift innit /science RE: really silly question - cpikey316_ - 18-01-2014 http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/gcsebitesize/science/aqa/origins/redshiftrev3.shtml Basically, if you move quickly towards a source of light, the waves become slightly compressed, this decreases the wavelength and the light looks slightly blue. I think a calculation suggested you'd have to be doing 40% the speed of light for it to happen though. Its like the dopper effect, but with light waves instead. RE: really silly question - Kezzieboy - 18-01-2014 Epic sticker is epic! RE: really silly question - WiNgNuTz - 18-01-2014 Ok, so now im feeling a bit thick. Thanks Chris. ![]() really silly question - Ben Jay - 18-01-2014 RE: really silly question - Toms306 - 18-01-2014 (18-01-2014, 11:57 AM)cpikey316_ Wrote: http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/gcsebitesize/science/aqa/origins/redshiftrev3.shtml Oh I see, that's pretty cool tbh then! ![]() RE: really silly question - Nadine - 18-01-2014 im wondering how many people will actually get that, i didnt and like wingnutz i feel slightly thick lol RE: really silly question - cpikey316_ - 18-01-2014 (18-01-2014, 12:42 PM)Nadine Wrote: im wondering how many people will actually get that, i didnt and like wingnutz i feel slightly thick lol Think about an ambulance coming towards you with its sirens on, then the sound changes as it passes you. When its approaching you, the waves are squashed together, the wavelength is shorter, making the frequency higher. As it passes you and moves away, the waves are more spread out, making the frequency lower Java thingy! http://www.colorado.edu/physics/2000/applets/doppler.html (18-01-2014, 12:30 PM)Toms306 Wrote: Oh I see, that's pretty cool tbh then! You'd need a least a stage 2 HDi , with cyclones and a 40mm drop to get to 40% the speed of light..... Science was never a strong point with me Re: RE: really silly question - WiNgNuTz - 18-01-2014 (18-01-2014, 01:27 PM)cpikey316_ Wrote: Think about an ambulance coming towards you with its sirens on, then the sound changes as it passes you. I got that bit, I remember that from school, and often recall it as an ambulance or similar shoot past, but I didnt realise the same theory applied to light! Also, surely you'd need more of a 60mm drop to achieve 40% of the speed of light? ![]() RE: really silly question - Tom - 18-01-2014 So its a nerdy funny sticker? I guess thats cool. Well 40mm lower is 40% lower which equals 40% faster. Right guise? Ah,its all falling into place! You can't go 100% lower, for the simple reason that it would mean you could reach the speed of light, which isn't allowed! |
